The current issue of Newsweek magazine (cover date March 30, 2009) features a photo from the 1931 Frankenstein showing the angry villagers with torches, dogs and weapons. The photo was used to promote the story "The Thinking Man's Guide To Populist Rage."
The cover shows Colin Clive (Henry Frankenstein) and Lionel Belmore, (the Burgomaster) leading the villagers in their search for the Frankenstein Monster.
UPDATE: A friend noted that Newsweek had to have obtained the photo from Getty Images and sent this along (note actor Michael Mark, who played the drowned Maria's father, at left):
