Lupe's Hot Dog Stand

One nice thing about Los Angeles is the diversity of different ethnic foods available. There are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Filipino, Kosher, Thai and many others kinds of eating establishments.

That goes especially for the fast food business. For chili burgers, it's Tommy's. For chili dogs, it's Pink's. For good regular burgers, it's In 'N Out Burger. For sushi, it's Crazy Tokyo Sushi.

For burritos and tacos, it's Lupe's Hot Dog Stand at 4642 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90022. Tel. (323) 266-6881.

I discovered Lupe's last year and I always go there whenever I am in East Los Angeles. While Lupe's Hot Dog Stand sounds deceiving, it is her burritos and tacos that is the big draw (yes, she also sells hot dogs and hamburgers along with taquitos).

She has about a dozen different varieties of burritos. My favorite is the chili relleno burrito. Her tacos are also excellent.

Several websites list Lupe's and there are some people who claim that Lupe is a grouchy old lady. I've never found her so. We get along quite well and she has a dry sense of humor.

If you happen to be in East Los Angeles, particularly in the vicinity of Eastern Avenue and Third Street, do yourself a favor and stop in for a burrito or taco (or both!).
