U.S. Has Own "Hachiko" Statue

Aboveyours truly with the ShibuyaTokyo Hachiko statue in 2001.

The United States now has its own Hachiko statue.

The statue was unveiled last Saturday in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.  The location was used in a 2009 movie starring Richard Gere.

The original statue stands outside of Shibuya station in Tokyo.  Hachiko was an Akita dog who waited for his master to return from work at the station years after his master died.

The Shibuya statue is a popular meeting place in Tokyo.
