Labor Day Weekend and Siren

Above, Siren last year. Photo by Armand Vaquer.
As we are in Labor Day weekend, quite a number of people have fled the city to enjoy the holiday weekend at lakes, campgrounds, hotels and other places.

Since I have to work this weekend and Labor Day (at least I am getting holiday pay for it), I remain in the San Fernando Valley. I was thinking of heading off to the Thousand Trails resort/campground in Soledad Canyon on Monday after work. However, since I have an ailing cat at home who needs her meds, I have to tend to her.

At least during the past few days, my cat Siren has been showing signs of improvement.

She had some sort of infection that caused her to lose weight (she was down to 3 1/2 pounds), anemic, dehydrated, weak and not grooming herself.

The vet prescribed anti-biotics to combat the infection and steroids (so that her body doesn't attack itself). She has to have them administered every 12 hours.

She has been showing signs of improvement during the past several days. Her appetite is good (she has always ate like a horse since the beginning) and she has been drinking her water. At first, I added water to her food to help her get hydrated. Next, she has been putting up resistance to being given her meds. At the beginning, she put up no fight. Now, she is fighting. During the beginning of her illness, she had not been grooming herself and Amber and I had to resort to cleaning her with baby wipes. Last night, I saw her grooming herself, which is another great sign of improvement.

Hopefully, she will be fully recovered by the time I head to Japan next month.
