U.S. Dollar At 102.31-33 Yen

It has been a while since the last time the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Japanese yen have been looked at here.

The current rate, according to Jiji Press:

Tokyo, May 13 (Jiji Press)--The dollar moved on a firmer note above 102 yen in Tokyo trading on Tuesday after topping the threshold in New York overnight, backed by higher stock prices and a rise in U.S. interest rates. 

At 5 p.m., the dollar stood at 102.31-33 yen, up from 101.89-90 yen at the same time Monday.

The dollar has been hovering around ¥101-102 for the past several months, as if it were stuck in a ditch. Still, this is a lot better rate than two years ago when it was ¥79-80.

When I went to Japan in February, it was around ¥102 yen per dollar in Tokyo. But this rate is for "high rollers" and not for your average tourist to Japan. What I actually got at the Chiba Bank window at Narita International Airport was ¥99.37 per dollar exchanged, still better than the high-70s and low-80s of two years ago.

As the yen is still around ¥101-102, American visitors to Japan can still expect to receive around ¥99 per dollar.
