Boeing 777 Selected As New "Japan's Air Force One"

The Japanese government has selected the airplane that will become "Japan's Air Force One."

According to Kyodo News:

TOKYO, Aug. 12, Kyodo-Japan picked the Boeing 777 aircraft on Tuesday as its new government aircraft for overseas trips by the prime minister and members of the imperial family. 

A pair of Boeing 777-300ERs -- which will start operational use in the fiscal year from April 2019, replacing the two B-747 aircraft currently in use -- will be maintained by All Nippon Airways Co., the government said.

The Boeing 777 met certain criteria that the Japanese government placed on it including the ability to fly nonstop to the East Coast of the United States.

I have flown on Boeing 777s in the past (with Korean Air) and found it to be a very capable plane.
