See Tokyo Via 3-D Virtual Reality Tour

Kinki Nippon Tourist Co. has come up with a unique way for visitors to tour Tokyo and to see it as it was during the Edo Period at the same time.

Asahi Shimbun reported:

Visitors to Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics can see Japan's capital as it looked centuries ago through the magic of Seiko Epson Corp.'s smart glasses and a special sightseeing trip developed by a tourist agency. 

Kinki Nippon Tourist Co. has developed a tour that enables participants to view 3-D images of Tokyo’s landmarks as they appeared in centuries past. 

Here's how it works: If travelers stand in front of the Imperial Palace in central Tokyo while wearing the 3-D smart glasses, the towering Edo Castle and cityscape of the Tokugawa Shogunate era will emerge. 

The image is a re-creation of what the castle looked like before its tower and a large segment of the city, known as Edo back then, were destroyed in an inferno in 1657.
