Today in U.S. history, the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.

Ceremonies commemorating the attack will take place today. This will be the first time that there will be no survivors of the USS Arizona attending the ceremonies. There are five remaining. All are in their 90s and in frail health.

The USS Arizona Memorial is closed to visitors as renovations to the memorial are in progress. The memorial is expected to re-open by March.
