Jor-El and Flash Gordon Shared A Tailor

Above, Aline Towne and Robert Rockwell as Lara and Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian parents.

In the first episode of the Adventures of Superman (1951), "Superman On Earth", Kal-El's father Jor-El (played by actor Robert Rockwell) is seen wearing a familiar costume.

Sharp-eyed movie and science-fiction fans would easily recognize the costume as one worn by actor Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon in the Universal Pictures Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe (1940) serial.

Above, Carol Hughes and Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon.

The costume was basically the same in 1951 when worn by Rockwell eleven years later, except for an added collar piece.

It is interesting that Flash Gordon and Jor-El had the same tailor.
