Jeep Problem Apparently Solved

Above, the Jeep after getting dust/dirt hosed off this morning. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The other day, I took a drive to McGaffey and on the way back, the Jeep started acting up.

I posed the question on what was happening to a couple of Facebook Jeep groups and to the "greybeards" here in Jamestown, New Mexico. Most felt that the problem was fuel system-related.

One suggestion on troubleshooting it was to open the vent on the gas cap. From the looks of the gas cap, I could not see any vent openings. However, looking at the underside of the gas cap, I saw a small lever in the center with markings near it saying "open" and "closed". The lever looked like it was in the "closed" position. From what I understand, closing the vent is necessary for when a Jeep is driven through a body of water and when a snorkel is used.

Yesterday, I turned the lever to "open" and took the Jeep out for a drive. I had no problems with it and it also had better pick-up to it. So, it appears the problem has been solved.

It is amazing on how some of us continue to learn new things about vehicles.
