Monument Valley Tribal Park Established In 1958

Monument Valley is famous for being the location for a number of John Ford/John Wayne westerns, such as Stagecoach, Fort Apache, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon and The Searchers.

It is presently a tribal park of the Navajo Nation.

On this date in 1958, the 30,000-acre Monument Valley Tribal Park, the first park established on the Navajo reservation, was established by a resolution of the Navajo Advisory Committee of the Navajo Tribal Council.
