Yalta's Roosevelt Street

It has become a cliché, but the old saying, "You learn something new everyday!" certainly applies here.

I received this morning some photos from Asya of a street in Yalta, Russia that is named "Roosevelt Street" in honor of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Roosevelt Street (Russian: "Улица Рузвельта" /Ulitsa Ruzvjelta/) Not a tourist draw in and of itself, but interesting to see the plaque with Roosevelt's profile in relief and a short dedication in Russian and English. Add it to your list if you are walking around Yalta's old town.

Yalta is famous (or infamous, depending upon one's point-of-view) as being the site of a meeting of "The Big Three" (Roosevelt, Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin and Prime Minister Winston Churchill) in February 1945.

I told her that it is interesting that a street in Russia would be named for Roosevelt. She replied, "Yes, indeed. Doesn't happen often in Russia."
