D&SNGRR Resumes Excursions To Silverton Today

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has announced the starting of train service to Silverton, Colorado today after halting for over a year.

The scenic round-trip to Silverton takes 9.25 hours with a two-hour layover for passengers to enjoy the shops, restaurants and museums in town.

The railroad offers a choice of either a steam train or a diesel train for the trip. For me, it is steam all the way. If I wanted to ride a diesel train, I'd take Amtrak (which I did last year).

According to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad:

Right now we have 7 active steam—8 if you count the #478—and 10 diesels, including the #103 and #106 which are currently on their way down from Alaska.
