Jackson vs. Jackson Hole: What's The Difference?

Visitors to the state of Wyoming often get Jackson and Jackson Hole confused. I have to confess, I have done so myself.

What's the difference between Jackson and Jackson Hole?

TravelAwaits has posted an article that explains the difference between the two.

They begin with:

I was guilty of calling the town of Jackson, Wyoming, “Jackson Hole.”  Imagine my surprise when I learned they were two different places — the town of Jackson and the valley of Jackson Hole. Luckily, I never wagered my entire potential winnings on this question in Final Jeopardy (R.I.P. Alex Trebek).
