4th of July Weather

Yesterday afternoon through the night, we had some good rain downpours. Plus, we had he best displays of lightning so far this monsoon season. 

It will be interesting how the weather will shape up this evening.

According to the National Weather Service:

Independence Day

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight

Scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. South wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

I mentioned earlier that I have a choice of going to the Wild West Rodeo in Grants or to Martin Link's in Gallup this evening. Considering how the weather might be, I have a third choice: just stay at home. I do have some firecrackers I can shoot off. But there's a lot of nearby animals, so the firecrackers may give them heart attacks. 

I'll just have to wait and see.

By the way, as we're in monsoon season, thunderstorms aren't unusual during Independence Day week. Remember, a thunderstorm allegedly brought down a flying saucer near Roswell in July 1947.
