Yesterday, I took a friend to his doctor's appointment in Gallup.
While he was at the doctor's office, I went to a couple of local trading posts (also known as pawn shops) to browse around.
I went to Perry Null Trading on 2nd Street first. They have a huge collection of Native American art, jewelry and rugs. They also have guns for sale.
I was perusing the guns and noticed a Winchester 94 lever-action rifle. I asked the clerk allow me to examine it. Right away, I noticed it was nowhere near in good condition as my pre-64 Model 94. It was priced at $700. That would be a good price these days if the rifle were in good condition. It looked like it saw a lot of use and wasn't cared for very well. It was likely pawned. There was one additional thing I noticed: it was a post-64 rifle. I spotted that right off the bat! There was no set screw on the bottom. See the video below about this.
I am not looking to buy another Winchester 94, but if I should come across one in decent condition and is a pre-64, I would consider buying it.
