Bison Gores Woman In Yellowstone National Park

A young woman from Ohio got too close to a bison in Yellowstone National Park and was gored and thrown ten feet into the air.

According to Wyoming News Now:

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - A bison has gored a 25-year-old woman in Yellowstone National Park.

A park statement says the bison was walking near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, just north of Old Faithful, when the woman approached it Monday. She got within 10 feet before the animal gored her and tossed her 10 feet into the air.

The woman from Grove City, Ohio, sustained a puncture wound and other injuries.

Park emergency medical providers responded and transported her via ambulance to a hospital in Idaho.

Remember, when in the vicinity of bison or other wild animals in Yellowstone, keep a safe distance.

While initial reports stated that the woman had died as a result of her injuries, that does not appear to be the case.

NBC News first wrote that the woman had died but then corrected themselves to say that she had survived.

"A previous version of this article misstated the severity of the woman’s injuries," they wrote. "She survived being gored by a bison at Yellowstone. She was not killed."

Yellowstone National Park Turns 150 Today

Although Yellowstone National Park is millions of years old, as a national park, it turns 150 years old today.

MAMMOTH SPRINGS, Wyo. (Release) - March 1, 2022, marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Yellowstone National Park. Signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant, America’s first national park was set aside to preserve and protect the scenery, cultural heritage, wildlife, geologic and ecological systems and processes in their natural condition for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations.

“We’re proud to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Yellowstone with America,” said Superintendent Cam Sholly. “This anniversary should remind us of the incredible value of our National Park System and the need for us to continue working together to address the many challenges of the future.”

Beginning March 1, the park will host and participate in a wide range of activities to commemorate 150 years of Yellowstone. Efforts will focus around reflecting on 150 years of protecting the park, highlighting successes in the ecosystem, and opening dialogue on the lessons learned from yesterday, the challenges of today, and a vision for tomorrow.
