Best Things To Do In Window Rock

Window Rock, Arizona is a short distance away from Gallup, New Mexico. Before the pandemic, I paid the town a visit.

It is the capital of the Navajo Nation. It has many things to see and TravelAwaits posted an article spotlighting nine of them.

They begin with:

When it comes to capitals, Window Rock, Arizona, stands out for a number of reasons. First, there’s the magnificent red sandstone arch that the town is named for. And then there is the fact that Window Rock serves as the headquarters and capital of the Navajo Nation, the largest sovereign Native American nation in the United States.

Add in the authentic Navajo culture that is on display virtually everywhere — from museums to monuments to trading posts — and you have a capital-city destination unlike any other.

"Godzilla vs. Kong": My Best Bet Is Window Rock, Arizona

Above, Window Rock, where the town gets its name. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Since theaters will be closed for the foreseeable future in New Mexico and with Godzilla vs. Kong slated to open on March 31, it appears that my best chance to see it (since I don't have cable or satellite to get HBO Max) will be to go into neighboring Arizona.

Since I live 40 miles from the Arizona-New Mexico border, the nearest theaters that will likely show it are in Window Rock, Arizona.

Window Rock is the capital of the Navajo Nation, but it is a large enough town to have theaters. The Navajo Nation has been a hot spot for coronavirus, but I shouldn't worry too much since I will be fully vaccinated by then and the usual precautions (mask and gloves) will be taken.

I have been to Window Rock once. It is less than an hour's drive (about 48 miles away).
