Gallup Gun Show

The other day while driving in Gallup to go to the Gallup Flea Market, I noticed a small sign (the size of a realtor sign) in a vacant lot. I noticed it said "gun show", but drove on without stopping to look.

Then this morning, while perusing the Gun Owners of New Mexico Facebook page, I came across this:

Since I haven't been to a gun show since the last Great Western Gun Show at the Fairplex in Pomona, California in the late 1990s, I decided to go. I am glad I did.

The Gallup Gun Show is a small show, but it had plenty of vendors. I spoke with one of the sponsors and he said that this is a new show, with the first one held last April. The next one will be in March. The dates will be March 14-15, 2020 at the same venue, the Gallup Community Service Center (off Exit 22 of Interstate 40).

While wandering around the tables, I found the prices of the guns for sale to be quite reasonable even though I wasn't looking to buy any guns. While there, I did buy a couple of boxes of 30-30 Winchester ammo for the Winchester 94.

The show host for the Gallup Gun Show is Los Alamos Ammo. They gave me a list of upcoming gun shows in New Mexico, some they host and some are hosted by others. While looking over, I said there's a lot of shows. One of the hosts replied, "This is a gun state!"

After leaving the gun show, I relaxed at home over a cup of coffee. Once I was done with that, I got the Jeep out of the garage and did some driving through Six Mile Canyon.

It turned out to be a rather enjoyable day.

Good Riddance, Lee Baca!

As I write this, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca is announcing his resignation from office on live television.

All I can say is, "Good Riddance!"

Baca has been an incompetent boob in office. He first caught my ire back in 1998 when he backed Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's ordinance banning gun shows on county property, i.e., the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds, where the Great Western Gun Show was held for decades.

I remember attending one meeting of the Board of Supervisors where the ordinance was discussed and Baca was grilled by Supervisor Mike Antonovich. Baca couldn't give a straight answer when asked why he is supporting the gun show ban when his department had a recruitment booth at the gun show.

Unfortunately, the liberal majority on the Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance.

The Los Angeles Times earlier reported:

L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca, who faced a tough battle for reelection amid scandals in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, plans to annouce his retirement, law enforcement sources told The Times. 

Baca's decision comes a month after federal prosecutors filed criminal charges against 18 current and former sheriff's deputies accused of beating jail inmates and visitors, trying to intimidate an FBI agent and other crimes following an investigation of corruption inside the nation's largest jail system. 

The timing of his announcement remains unclear. But it was confirmed by multiple sources, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The last great sheriff L.A. County had was Sheriff John!

Gun Show Sign: "If you voted for Obama..."

Too bad the liberals ended the Great Western Gun Shows at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds (Fairplex) back in the 1990s (but we gave them a good fight).
