Leftist Extremists End Griffith Park Pony Rides

The leftist extremists and the pussy politicians on the Los Angeles City Council have ended another Los Angeles institution that people enjoyed: the pony rides at Griffith Park. 

According to Steve Weeks, the owner/operator of the pony rides, wrote:

NEWS FROM GRIFFITH PARK PONY RIDES

It is with much sadness that I announce that Griffith Park Pony Rides will be ceasing operations December 21, 2022. I have received a letter from Los Angeles Recreation and Parks stating that our contract will not be renewed. After 74 years serving the children and parents of Los Angeles, this iconic institution will be closed forever by order of the City. 

You have all followed our fight against these few radical animal rights activists. Despite our year long fight to answer the untrue statements of these individuals, our efforts were not heard. This was the city decision and not the pony rides choice. I will post more at a later date giving greater details. I just wanted you to hear the news from me. This group has been loyal friends of the pony rides and I thank you.  In the days ahead I will be attempting to find forever homes for our many ponies. I am determined to find homes for our ponies with qualified horsepeople who will care as much about our ponies as I do. If you are interested in providing a home please message me. More to come.

California "Poised" To Ban Rodeos

The first rodeo I recall ever attending was in Santa Barbara, California in 1977. I enjoyed watching the contestants. One contestant had an interesting name, Sarah "Honeybear" Hickey (see photo below), who was the 1977 Miss Rodeo California. 

The rodeo was held at the Earl Warren Fairgrounds.

Now it seems that the last remaining All-American patriotic spectator sport, the rodeo, is in the crosshairs of leftists California (i.e., Commiefornia). 

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that for former Golden State is poised to ban, or at least curtail, rodeos.

They begin with:

Earlier this fall, Alameda County supervisors officially banned the practice of “wild cow milking” — a timed event in which a lactating beef cow, unused to human handling, has been wrangled from the fields and brought to an arena.

There, she is separated from her calf, tossed into a rodeo ring, and attacked by three or four men who rope her, pull her tail, wrestle her to the ground and try to hold her still while one of them grabs her teats and milks her.

The move comes three years after the county banned “mutton busting” — an event in which small children are placed on the backs of scared, unsaddled sheep and try to stay on while the sheep bucks, kicks and jumps to knock the child off.

“It’s animal abuse,” said Eric Mills, coordinator for Oakland’s Action for Animals, an animal welfare organization. “It’s unconscionable to treat animals this way. Can you imagine if they did this to dogs? No one would be OK with it. So why is it OK to do this to baby calves, horses and cows?”

For those who admire a “western lifestyle,” a good rodeo performance highlights the skill, bravery and strength of a talented cowboy or cowgirl — a rider deft with a lasso, in control of wild, bucking animals, and laser-focused on a chaotic, seemingly uncontrollable task at hand. It’s this display of western grandeur, hard work, grit and sportsmanship that has likely made the Peacock series “Yellowstone” such a major hit.

But for others, the rodeo is a horror show in which terrified animals are chased around an arena, kicked by strangers, tossed onto the ground with potentially bone-crushing impact — all while loud music is blared and dozens, if not hundreds, of people yell, scream and clap from the nearby stands.

In California, there is a growing movement to ban — or seriously curtail — these kinds of performances. And lawmakers are stepping into the fray, exposing one more hot-button issue that is seemingly emblematic of the nation’s growing cultural discord.

In Los Angeles, the City Council is poised to vote on legislation that would curtail, if not eliminate, rodeo events within the city. Instead of banning particular events, the legislation seeks to ban certain devices used on rodeo animals — spurs, flank straps and electric prods — that can cause pain or injury.

I am sure glad to have left that rotten state. Leftist wackos have ruined most everything else within California, ruining the quality of life there. And now they are going after rodeos. Idiot voters have just re-elected "King Wacko" himself, Gov. Gavin Newsom. Pathetic!

Woolsey Fire Donations

I received the following email from Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield. If anyone is affected by the Woolsey Fire, it may be a help to you.

Armand -- The Woolsey Fire has continued to rage and our brave firefighters are doing everything they can to contain the fire and protect homes and lives. My team has been working closely with aid organizations and first responders on the ground to stay up-to-date with the status of the fire, and provide whatever is needed for those who had to evacuate their homes and for our firefighters and police who are on the front lines. When we alerted our community that I was opening our District Office as a temporary drop off and distribution center for donations, I didn’t know just how many folks would come. Over the last three days, our office has welcomed hundreds and hundreds of generous people who came from as far away as Fullerton, Marina Del Rey, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valley, as well as just down the street in my district. They brought thousands of donations and volunteered their time to help sort, organize and dispatch supplies to people and animals in need. Together we have collected tens of thousands of pounds of animal food, pallets upon pallets of diapers, hygiene products, energy bars, water and so much more. Thanks to many of your efforts, emergency shelters have what they need and we have successfully stocked and organized our emergency warehouses with additional supplies to meet the needs that develop over these next few days and weeks. For now, please stay safe. Red flag parking regulations will continue to be in effect. We will be regularly posting updates on my social media pages and so too will LAFD. Please do not bring us more donations at this time as we are at full capacity and have shifted our work towards organizing and shipping off supplies.
