End The Democrats' New Mexico Trifecta

At present, New Mexico has a one-party state government. The Democrat Party controls both houses of the legislature and the office of the governor. 

This one-party rule is called a trifecta. A trifecta is defined by Ballotpedia as:

State government trifecta is a term to describe single-party government, when one political party holds the governorship and majorities in both chambers of the state legislature.

When I first moved to New Mexico in 2018, the Democrats controlled both houses of the state legislature, but the governor was a Republican. 

California is a one-party Democrat state and has been since 2011. It is a perfect example of how the left wing Democrats have badly ran the state with no checks and balances. Spending has gone wild, taxes have skyrocketed, regulations are choking the populace driving many to flee the state, high unemployment and is suffering a housing crisis. Businesses are also leaving California. Gasoline is the highest in the nation. Refineries are shutting down. Small wonder people refer to California as Commiefornia. 

If Deb Haaland wins in November and the Democrats maintain their majorities, New Mexico can possibly face the same radical policies that already ruined California.

Newsom Signs 10 Anti-Gun Laws

California Gov. Gavin Newsom never met a gun control bill he didn't like. This is especially true in this legislative session.

Newsom received and signed 10 gun control laws that the Democrat supermajority in the state legislature sent him. I am sure glad I moved out of Commiefornia eight and a half years ago!

According to Guns.com:

As he meanders towards higher office in government, California's Gavin Newsom signed every piece of gun-control legislation on his desk last week and took a victory lap.

Newsom, the former mayor of San Francisco and one of the most high-profile Democrats to watch in the 2028 presidential election cycle, signed no less than 10 pieces of legislation on Saturday.

California Forcing 16-Year-Olds To Use Booster Seats

The Democrat supermajority in Commiefornia has done some crazy things but this is one of the most craziest things ever. This sounds like something out of the Babylon Bee, but it isn't.

They passed a law that forces 16-year-olds to ride in booster seats in vehicles. 

According to a post by Christina Aguayo News in Facebook:

California is about to make 16-year-olds ride in booster seats under a bill passed by the democrat supermajority.

It is set to take effect January 1, 2027. 

The measure,.that Newsom signed into law (AB 435) says that  children, ages 8 to 16, have to pass a 'Five step test" that includes:

1) The child has to sit all the way back,

2)  Knees bent over the seat edge, 

3)   Shoulder belt across the middle of the chest and shoulder - not the neck.

4)  Lap belt low on the thighs, and 

5)  Hold that pose the whole trip. 

Miss one step and the law says they still need a booster. 

First-offense tickets start at a $100 base fine and routinely land closer to $500 with assessments, plus a DMV point.​

Why does the supermajoriy Democrat state that preaches freedom and democracy.... have the most laws and restrictions? 

Steve Hilton Vows To Fire California Energy Bosses Behind Tire Regulations

The firestorm continues on the new Commiefornia tire regulations.

Gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has vowed that, if elected, will eliminate the unelected California Energy Commission, starting with the "Tire Hag" herself, Nancy Skinner.

The New York Post reported:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton promised to wipe out the agency behind California’s controversial new tire rules aimed at lowering emissions — blasting what he called an bloated “bureaucracy” that is only driving up the cost of living.

“When I am in office, we are going to have affordable, reliable energy in California that is as green as we can possibly make it. That’s what’s going to happen,” Hilton said at a Sacramento press conference Thursday steps away from the California Energy Commission.

“Instead of what they’re doing now, which is fake green energy that’s gouging every California family and business.”

The rules, approved Monday by the commission, will phase out replacement tires that fail to meet the state’s new energy-efficiency standards.

According to the Tire Industry Association, average tire prices could increase from $81 to as much as $157. For a full set of four tires, the difference could exceed $300 per vehicle.

Hilton said his first step would be targeted at one individual: Energy Commissioner Nancy Skinner, who reportedly was a driving force behind the tire rules.

Skinner is listed as the agency board’s engineer/scientist member.

“We are going to fire the tyrant Nancy Skinner!” Hilton said. “Nancy Skinner is a political hack. She has no business in that seat.”

"Don't Tread On Me" Has A New Meaning

 

This is the kind of crap we can expect in New Mexico if Deb Haaland is elected governor.

From the California Globe:

A bill to regulate car tires was passed by the California Legislature 20 years ago but never implemented.

“The California Energy Commission dusted off a 20+ year old bill to pass new rules restricting tire sales in the state,” KCRA’s Ashley Zavala reported Monday. “The CEC has not regulated tires before. I asked Commissioner (former State Sen) Nancy Skinner if she pushed it & why this sat dormant until now.”

Assembly Bill 844 “directs the California Energy Commission to adopt a Replacement Tire Efficiency Program to ensure replacement tires for passenger cars and light-duty trucks sold in California are at least as energy-efficient as the tires sold as original equipment on new vehicles.”

Skinner justified the decision by the California Energy Commission “we regulate appliances, tires are kind of like that.”

Nancy Skinner is the same lawmaker who tried to ban “Bullets, the very thing that make guns deadly,” she said in a hearing in 2013 I reported on. When she couldn’t ban guns, she tried to ban bullets.

In 2013, Assembly Bill 48 by then-Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) passed the Assembly by a 46-26 vote and moved over to the state Senate.

Her bill would have banned the sale of magazine parts kits that can hold more than 10 cartridges, and require mandatory reporting of law-abiding citizens who purchase more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition within a five-day period.

So naturally, when she can’t get you out of your car and onto public transit, she will make tires more expensive and difficult to get.

Now They're Coming After California's Tires

Nanny government is alive and well in Commiefornia.

There isn't too much left for state regulators to target. Now they're coming after your vehicle's tires. The new regulations will eventually ban 70% of tires currently sold in the state.

KRCA News 3 reported:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California regulators on Monday approved new rules that will restrict what tires you can buy when it's time to replace them on your car.

In a unanimous vote, the California Energy Commission voted to adopt new rules that will phase out the sale of replacement tires that don't meet certain energy efficiency standards.

"This ultimately is about protecting consumers," said David Hochschild, the chairman of the California Energy Commission. "I see this as sheltering the public from higher costs in the long run."

Tire manufacturers and the commission's staff are at odds over whether this will add to the cost of living in the state. Both sides acknowledged this will no longer allow the sale of a significant portion of the tires currently sold in California.

At the center of this is a tire's rolling resistance, or how much energy a tire uses as it rolls down the road. Lower resistance means a vehicle uses less gas or electricity. New cars come with generally efficient tires, but consumers typically replace those with higher rolling resistance tires.

Gwen Duffy Obituary

I was working on something when I happened to find an obituary for former Gardena (California) City Councilwoman Gwen Duffy.

She was a great friend and political ally back in the 1980s. She and I were part of the 1980 California Delegation to the Republican National Convention. The Delegation was invited to the White House for a reception in June 1982. Gwen and I both attended.

The Daily Breeze posted an obituary, which reads in part:

1922 – 2020 FIRST GARDENA COUNCIL WOMAN DIES The first woman to be elected to the Gardena City Council died on February 1, 2020. 

As Chair of the Committee to Preserve Property Rights in Gardena, Gwen helped to defeat a Gardena Redevelopment Agency ordinance. As a member of the Gardena Republican Women, Federated, she served as a member of the California Delegation of Reagan for President at the National Conventions in 1976, 1980, and 1984. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Gardena Emblem Club, Gardena Valley Friends of the Library, Gardena-Carson Family YMCA Board of Directors, Gardena Valley YWCA, Gardena Sister City Association, Gardena Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention and Chair of the Gardena We TIP Committee. Gwen was the first woman elected to the Gardena City Council and served from 1982 to 1999.

Disneyland Monorail Opened 67 Years Ago Today

67 years ago, the Disneyland Monorail system was opened to the public. It was opened four years after the park itself opened in former orange groves in Anaheim, California. These were the days when one didn't need a third home mortgage to afford to take the family to Disneyland.

The grand opening took place on June 14, 1959. It was dedicated by Vice President Richard Nixon and family. They were the first to ride it on opening day.

According to Wikipedia:

The Disneyland Monorail (originally named the Disneyland Alweg Monorail System) is an attraction and transportation line at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, United States. It was the first daily operating monorail in the country.

Walt Disney originally envisioned the monorail as a practical form of public transport for the future. However, the technology never became widespread in the United States beyond a select few novelty installations. The monorail came about during a time when America's—and particularly Los Angeles'—obsession with the automobile was increasing, and monorails in the United States were mostly only located in Disney's theme parks.

Every so often L.A. Mayor Karen Bass gets referred to as Basura. A number of man-on-the-street interviews of Hispanics in Los Angeles have been calling her this.

In case anyone is wondering what Basura means, it is a Spanish word.

RV Rule: (Almost) Never Knock On An RV Neighbor’s Door

In the RVing world, there are rules, written and unwritten. 

The following is an unwritten rule that does make sense. It is knocking on an RV door. Admittedly, it is jarring to have someone knock on my motorhome's door. But this has been extremely rare. 

RV Travel spells out the reasons for this and states a few exceptions. 

They begin with:

Have you heard about this unwritten RV rule? It doesn’t come up very often. However, you should know and follow this unwritten rule: (Almost) never knock on an RV door.

Folks new to RVing may not realize that knocking on another person’s RV door is almost always considered taboo. Let’s take a closer look at this unwritten rule and the reasoning behind it.

The Steal In Commiefornia Is On!

 

The Election (So Far)

While the final results from yesterday's primaries are still to be finalized, it appears that the general election campaigns in New Mexico and California are shaping up as follows:

In New Mexico, former U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland won her primary for governor on the Democrat side and former Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull appears to have won on the Republican side. It will be an interesting campaign between dimwit Haaland and successful ex-mayor Hull.

In California, the race for governor is "too close to call" as of two hours ago from The Guardian. With many ballots still left to be counted, three candidates emerged at the top: the Republican Steve Hilton and the Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer. 

In the Los Angeles race for mayor, it looks like Mayor Karen Bass has been forced into a runoff election against former reality TV star Spencer Pratt. This is another race to watch. 

To me, there are no surprises here. The election results (so far) are what I expected .

PSA Airlines Still Exists

Back in the 1970s, whenever I flew around California (usually for GOP state conventions) or to Las Vegas, Nevada, I often flew with PSA Airlines or Western Airlines. My first flight was with PSA Airlines from San Jose, California to LAX in 1974. 

I was using Google to read about PSA (short for Pacific Southwest Airlines) after reading about the current troubles with Spirit Airlines and found that the airline still exists.

California RV Show Returns

One of the last things I did just before moving to New Mexico was to attend the California RV Show in Pomona in October 2017.

After this, the California RV Show was cancelled when COVID hit. It hadn't been held since, until this past week. 

According to the following article in Woodall's Campground Magazine, it was a big success.

They start the article with:

Despite rising gas prices and war, the California RV Show, held March 20-22, drew more than 20,000 paying visitors. The event, which took place at the Pomona Fairplex, was the first major RV show in Southern California in almost six years.

“Given there hadn’t been anything in California for years, I thought anything over 10,000 attendees would be a success,” said RV Supershows President Rob Lynch. “The fact that we exceeded my expectations by more than double truly excites me for the future. Pomona is back – Pomona’s back in a big way.”

Exhibiting dealers and OEMs included: Aboard RV, Airstream, Beaumont RV, Best RV Center, Blue Compass RV, Ford Motor Company (Towing Bootcamp), Galaxy RV, Giant RV, Marjon RV, Pebble RV, Rovikk, Sport Truck RV, The RV Super Store and Venture Explorers.

It is nice to see the California RV Show return.

Newsom Imports Expensive Gasoline From Bahamas

It is becoming more and more evident that the California state government is run by lunatics.

The latest is from the American Energy Alliance:

This story is baffling. Bloomberg reports that California is starting to import gasoline from the Bahamas, while the state sits on enormous oil resources it refuses to develop. Bloomberg reports:

“US supplies of gasoline are being shipped out of the country to travel thousands of miles via the Bahamas before finally ending up in California, a state battling shrinking fuelmaking capacity and high pump prices. Shipments on the circuitous route are increasing. California imported more gasoline in November than ever before, with more than 40% coming from the Bahamas… After Phillips 66 shuttered its Los Angeles refinery in October, gasoline imports climbed in 2025 to the highest level since at least 2016. With Valero Energy Corp. set to close a Northern California refinery this spring, and no fuel pipelines connecting the US Gulf’s oil-producing powerhouse to the West Coast, the nation’s most populous state will likely depend on imports to bridge the gap.”

Only in Governor Newsom’s California does this make sense. The same governor who tried to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035 and has made it nearly impossible to develop new oil fields is now presiding over a state that needs gasoline shipped from the Bahamas because California can’t refine enough of its own fuel.

10 Eastern Sierra Must-Visit Stops On U.S. 395

Back in 2016, before California's gasoline prices got outrageous, I took a little jaunt up U.S. 395 in the Eastern Sierra.

I stopped at places like Manzanar National Historic Site, Bishop, Devil's Postpile National Monument and Mammoth Lakes. I also drove along Tioga Pass on Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park. 

There are places that I missed and RV Travel posted an article with video on ten places considered "must-visit" to RVers.

They begin it with:
