2nd Amendment Rights Under Attack By H. R. 45

Congressional tyrants are now trying to take away your gun rights, bit by bit, piece by piece with their soft tyranny policies.

H. R. 45, Blair Holt's Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 was introduced January 9, 2009.

Here is a letter from Congressman Paul Broun, R-GA:

Dear Concerned American,

The great pay-back has begun, and it's going to be ugly.

The gun grabbers in Congress are paying back the anti-gun extremists who put them and Barack Obama in office.

Hi, this is Congressman Paul Broun from Georgia. I wish I had better news, but you and I are facing an assault on our gun rights like we’ve never seen before.

You see, H.R. 45 is Barack Obama’s gun control package, and it includes the most vile anti-gun measures he’s supported over the years.

It's only the first step...

...but it's a HUGE step.

H.R. 45 establishes a NATIONAL gun registry database of every gun and its owner -- for the whole county! Your private information and every gun you own would be in the system.

But that’s only if you succeed in buying a gun in the first place!

And since H.R. 45 dramatically increases requirements for firearms purchases far beyond those ever proposed, you just might find youself incapable of buying a firearm once this bill takes effect.

And it gets worse too.

The National Association for Gun Rights has a survey ready for you to complete, but I want you to understand just how dangerous this bill is before I give you the link. Please bear with me for a moment.

You see, H.R. 45 would establish a national gun registry database which would:

Increase requirements for firearms purchases, far beyond those ever proposed.

Create a national firearms registry overseen by the Federal Government.

Invoke Draconian penalties for bookkeeping errors related to the Federal Firearms Database.

It gets worse though.

Sarah Brady and her allies in Congress want to force you to take a written exam to prove that you are "fit" to exercise your Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

I'm outraged by this, and I know you are too.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that gun registration has historically laid the groundwork for total firearm confiscation. Citizen disarmament is the watchword of tyrants everywhere.

In fact, the most brutal dictators of the last century were famous for their gun registration and confiscation schemes.

But H.R. 45, Obama's National Gun Registry and Citizen Disarmament Act, is more than just a forced registration of all firearms in America.

The bill also makes it increasingly difficult to buy a gun in the first place.

Taken right out of Sarah Brady's Christmas wish list, H.R. 45 includes a laundry list of new restrictions on firearms purchases.

In addition to the outrageous national gun registration requirement, H.R. 45 also requires you to:

Pass a written examination to purchase a firearm.

Release your medical records -- including confidential mental health records -- to the government to get your "fitness" to own a firearm approved.

Observe a two-day waiting period before all firearms purchases.

Pay a gun tax of $25 or more on all firearm purchases.
Moreover, H.R. 45 bans all private firearms sales and maximizes penalties for minor clerical errors in dealing with the national gun registry.

The list goes on and on. It's enough to turn your stomach.

I know I don't have to tell you, but these restrictions make a mockery of the Constitution. "The Right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" might as well say: "You have no rights."

If a two-day waiting period, a written exam and a gun tax aren't infringing our rights, I don't know what is!

Even the Supreme Court’s recent Heller decision guaranteeing an individual’s right to own a firearm doesn’t hamper Barack Obama’s agenda one bit.

In fact, it emboldens gun grabbers to pass legislation taxing ammunition, increasing registration requirements, and drastically limiting when, how and where you can use your firearm.

That’s why I’ve decided to stand with the National Association for Gun Rights fight back against this radical scheme.

They're fully committed to stopping the efforts of the gun grabbers, but they need the help of grassroots gun owners like you.

With liberals calling the shots in Washington, all supporters of the Second Amendment must join together, draw a line in the sand, and fight this battle to the end.

We must make this gun-grab expensive and politically painful for the enemies of freedom. If we do, they'll flinch ... and LOSE.

Can Obama Shut Down The Internet?

Oh-oh, it looks like something may be brewing in Washington concerning the Internet.

Hot Air is reporting on a Mother Jones story about the The Cybersecurity Act of 2009.

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network “in the interest of national security.” The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.

The bill does not only add to the power of the president. It also grants the Secretary of Commerce “access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access.” This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws.

The section causing concern is this one:

SEC. 14. PUBLIC–PRIVATE CLEARINGHOUSE.

(a) DESIGNATION.—The Department of Commerce shall serve as the clearinghouse of cybersecurity threat and vulnerability information to Federal government and private sector owned critical infrastructure information systems and networks.
(b) FUNCTIONS.—The Secretary of Commerce—
(1) shall have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access; …

SEC. 18. CYBERSECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY.
The President— …

(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network; …

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009, S.773 is sponsored by Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Bill Nelson (D-FL), and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). (Snowe was one of three RINO Republicans who supported the stimulous bill. A conservative she is not!)

This may be all about nothing, but Democrats have already made noises about muzzling conservative talk-radio with a return of the Fairness Doctrine or through the back door with instituting "local content" rules. Besides talk-radio, the Internet is the other channel of information and comment that the Democrats have no control over. Yet.

President Barack Obama Opposes Return of "Fairness Doctrine"

A spokesman for President Obama indicated today that the President opposes re-instituting the fairness doctrine.

FoxNews.com reports:

President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a spokesman told FOXNews.com Wednesday.

The statement is the first definitive stance the administration has taken since an aide told an industry publication last summer that Obama opposes the doctrine -- a long-abolished policy that would require broadcasters to provide opposing viewpoints on controversial issues.

"As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated," White House spokesman Ben LaBolt told FOXNews.com.

Some Democrats have been discussing bringing back the Fairness Doctrine in order to stifle conservative talk shows. Some are considering doing so "through the back door" by instituting "local programming" rules. Most of the major talk shows are syndicated to local stations around the country.

We'll see if Obama sticks to this position or not. Many of his statements on policy positions seem to have "expiration dates" according to Rush Limbaugh.

Democrats in Congress have made it no secret that they'd like to silence the voices of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and others by reimposing the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" in which opposing views and programming is equally presented.

From Radio Ink.com:

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) told nationally syndicated talk host Bill Press this morning that the recent flips of liberal Talk stations in several markets were a "disservice to the public."

Stabenow said that, in the day of the Fairness Doctrine, "you had to have balance," and continued, "I think something that requires that in a market with owners that have multiple stations that they have got to have balance -- there has to be some community interest -- balance, you know, standard that says both sides have to be heard."

Stabenow told Press that the airwaves are "dominated by one view" that "overwhelms people's opinions -- and, unfortunately, incorrectly," and said that "right-wing conservative talk hosts" are "trying to make people angry and saying all kinds of things that aren't true and so on."

When Press asked if it is time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, Stabenow responded, "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard." To Press' inquiry as to whether she will push for hearings in the Seante "to bring these owners in and hold them accountable," Stabenow replied, "I have already had some discussions with colleagues, and, you know, I feel like that's going to happen. Yep."

The old "Fairness Doctrine" was ended in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan. Now the left-wingers are plotting to silence conservative talk radio.

It was conservative talk radio that saved AM radio as FM radio became the dominant radio band in the 1970s and 1980s.

Liberal/left-wing talk shows have had a dismal history. None ever got the ratings that conservative talk radio receives and they failed. Nobody on the right ever bothered to try to silence them. They failed on their own.

Democrats deny trying to censor conservative talk radio and "have no plans" to re-impose the "Fairness Doctrine." But they may try to do it through the back door with "local programming" rules.

Contact your senator or congress member and demand that they leave talk radio alone.

There is a move by Republicans to prevent the censoring of talk radio. From WorldNetDaily.com:

"Freedom of speech is under attack in this country" said Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., sponsor of the Senate version of the Broadcaster Freedom Act of 2009. "And there's no place that it's more visible and easier to see than this idea of the Fairness Doctrine, which several Democratic leaders have already mentioned that they think should be brought back."

The New York Post reported:

President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

During the campaign, Obama appeared to have a fixation on Fox News' Sean Hannity by bringing up his name several times. Now it appears that Obama is responding to Limbaugh's interviews this week with Hannity on Hannity's new show.

Limbaugh recently said:

"I've been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don't want them to succeed."

This indicates to me that Obama is an amateur and has a thin skin. A more experienced and seasoned politician would just ignore specific critics. This also tells me that Limbaugh has been scoring points and stung Obama with his comments.

One thing that Obama is wrong on, the GOP has not been listening to Limbaugh. If they were, we would not have had such big losses in last year'e election and would not have nominated John McCain.

The Democrats have indicated that they plan to silence talk radio by passing either a new "fairness doctrine," law or through the back door with a local programming rule. Clearly, Obama and his Democratic allies want to censor any opposition points of view.
