New LED Light

Above, the new LED bulb lighting up the front yard. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

This evening, I was relieved to see the new bulb (a 100 watt LED) came on in the front yard lamp.

I was concerned that it may have been something more than a burned out bulb since the old one was one of those compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) with mercury in the loops, which are supposed to last a long time. I didn't want to get another one of those. The LED looks like the old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs.

The LED appears to be as bright as the old CFL.

When I installed it, I had the clean out the inside of the fixture since the was a layer of dead bugs on the bottom. How they got in is a mystery since the fixture is glass enclosed.

Looney Left Report: Bye-Bye Incandescent Light Bulbs

2014 is now upon us and that brings to us lowly serfs a complete ban on incandescent light bulbs.

Yes, you heard that right. The light bulb as we knew them are now banned and we have to buy those unsafe and expensive fluorescent bulbs to light up our homes. Those bulbs don't seem to last any longer than the old incandescent ones. I've had several burn out within a year. Weren't they supposed to last five years or longer?

According to Newsmax.com:

Incandescent light bulbs, which have been in use in the United States for more than a century, are on their way out in the new year. The federal government has prohibited their manufacture and import starting Wednesday.
The latest ban covers 40-watt and 60-watt bulbs. The 100-watt and 75-watt varieties had already been phased out. The bans were signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2007 as part of the Energy Independence and Security Act.
Opponents of the law protest that the government is making decisions for consumers rather than letting the marketplace determine the products people want.
"When we make a purchase, it's about quality, price, how much money we have now, can I use that money for a better investment? I don't need the government to say that I am making the incorrect decision and therefore I should buy energy-efficient products," said Daren Bakst, research fellow in agricultural policy at the Heritage Foundation.

He decries the light-bulb ban as representing heightened government overreach.
"The light-bulb issue is about a complete ban of a product. It's overkill. Now you have something you can no longer buy. That's really indefensible," he said.
We can thank the Looney Left (passed by a Democrat-controlled Congress and Senate) and former President George W. Bush (we can't blame Obama for this) for this stupid law. Speaking of laws, 40,000 have gone into effect starting today. Just what we need.
