In an effort to boost tourist shopping in Japan, major companies such as department stores are teaming up.
The Japan News reported:
Transcending borders between industries, travel agencies and department stores have joined hands to attract foreign tourists, especially those from Southeast Asia. The effort is part of recent nationwide moves to use the purchasing power of foreign tourists to boost consumption in Japan, as the visitors’ numbers are surging due to the depreciation of the yen.
On Tuesday, the Japan Shopping Tourism Organization celebrated its inauguration. Among the members were travel agency JTB Corp., major department store chains and other major distributors. The organization said it will ask companies from diverse industries to join the organization from October.To read the full article, go here.
