Worst Guns for Beginners (And Some Good Ones)

Anything in life always has a beginning. This is also true for guns.

Anyone thinking about taking up target shooting or hunting as a beginner should read a post by Pew Pew Tactical on the worst guns for beginners (and some good ones).

They start it with:

So, you decided to buy your first gun. Congrats and welcome!

We're lucky to live in a time when there are more genuinely good, affordable firearms available than we know what to do with.

But there are some you should avoid.

Some are objectively lousy; some just aren't suitable for new shooters. Don't worry, though; we've got your back. I'll point out the worst guns for beginners and then recommend a few that are great guns for new shooters.

Let the learning begin!

51 Years of "Dirty Harry"

A movie that delighted conservatives and unnerved liberals was released 51 years ago last month.

That movie was Dirty Harry starring Clint Eastwood, Andy Robinson, Harry Guardino, John Vernon and Reni Santoni. The was new type of cop movie. It was about a "loose cannon" San Francisco police inspector named Harry Callahan, who battled the hoodlums and incompetent superiors and public officials. It was directed by Don Siegel.

It was released on December 23, 1971.

I remember seeing it on its initial release and later with friends at the Nuart Theater in West Los Angeles with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I have it on DVD.

Dirty Harry spawned four sequels. While those were entertaining, none of them matched the cinematic impact of the original.

San Francisco's "Cash For Criminals"

California constantly lives up to its "Land of Fruits and Nuts" image.

The latest is an insane "pilot program" in San Francisco (the looniest city in the state) to pay people not to shoot other people. In other words, "Cash For Criminals".

The city of Richmond already has a similar program.

From Fox News:

San Francisco is rolling out a pilot program that will pay high-risk individuals to not shoot anyone as gun crimes tick up in the city.

"These small investments can transform the lives of individuals, but they can also transform communities," Sheryl Davis, executive director of the Human Rights Commission, told Newsweek.

The Dream Keeper Fellowship will pay 10 individuals who are at high risk of being on either end of a shooting $300 each month to not be involved in such crimes.

I bet the taxpayers there are very happy over this!

In Dirty Harry (1971) the mayor of San Francisco (John Vernon) said:

The City of San Francisco does not pay criminals not to commit crimes. Instead, we pay a police department.

When I heard about this "Cash For Criminals" program a few days ago, the above lines came immediately to mind. A lot has sure changed since then.
