Looked like a fun night. But I remember Godzilla being a little bit taller.

1970s Commercials (video)

Here are some 1970s commercials. My favorite was one done by Schlitz Malt Liquor with Teddy Roosevelt finding things rather "Bully!" It starts at about 2:47 minutes into the video. I remember laughing when I first saw the commerical.

Radio Station Contemplates Suing Harris Campaign Over Ad

It looks like not everybody in the media is enamored with Kamala Harris or her campaign.

A North Dakota radio station is contemplating suing Harris's campaign over an ad that has headlines implying they are supporting her.

The Washington Times reported:

A radio station is contemplating a lawsuit against Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign over its practice of altering headlines in online ads to make it appear that news outlets are supporting her bid for the White House.

Campaign ethics experts called the ad manipulation strategy “sloppy” and a threat to Ms. Harris’ claims of running an honest operation.

Steve Hallstrom, president and managing partner of Fieldstone Group, which operates WDAY Radio in Fargo, North Dakota, said the Harris campaign “lied to every single person who saw that ad.”

“We have reached out to the Harris campaign and demanded they terminate this ad immediately, and we are considering all options here, including legal action,” he said. “This is not right, and they should not be allowed to get away with this and tarnish our reputation — whether it’s a family-owned North Dakota company like us or a major national news organization.”

Major 2nd Amendment Victory In Circuit Court

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (sometimes referred to as the "Ninth Circus") or at least a three-judge panel of it, got this one right.

The following is definitely a Second Amendment (and First Amendment) victory.

MSM reported:

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request to rehear a ruling that found California’s ban on gun advertisements in junior sports magazines likely unconstitutional.

The decision was made by a three-judge panel, stating that the ban does not directly reduce gun violence among youth and violates the First Amendment by restricting truthful advertisements about lawful gun use.

The panel’s conclusion was “that because California permits minors under supervision to possess and use firearms for hunting and other lawful activities, [the Marketing Firearms to Minors Law] facially regulates speech that concerns lawful activity and is not misleading,” Judge Kenneth Lee said.

New Addition To The Den

Last week, I was perusing around and came across a Winchester firearms and ammunition sign.

It is metal and embossed. I checked with some Winchester enthusiasts and they say it is from the 1980s.

Above, the Winchester sign in the den. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The only reason that I have doubts that it is a reproduction is that it is embossed, If it is original, it looks good for its age. I looked around for other examples of this sign but couldn't find any.

Still, whether it is original or a reproduction, I am pleased with it. It only cost $11.00 and is now in the den.

Appendix Carry IWB Holsters

When I saw the above ads in Guns & Ammo and in other gun magazines, my immediate thought that these kinds of holsters can "geld" the wearer in an instant. I, personally, would not use these Inside The Waistband (IWB) holsters if I had a concealed carry permit. This is called "appendix carry".

Naturally, these types of holsters are more appropriate for women, for obvious reasons. (Some could crudely say, "there's nothing to shoot off".)

An article also mention IWB holster dangers in Bravo Concealment:

The biggest risk of appendix carry is the impact that a negligent discharge could have on the gun owner. Negligent discharges can happen in any carry position, but when they occur from appendix carry, they could impact a critical area of the body that includes the groin and the femoral artery. A negligent discharge from this position could easily be life threatening.

A secondary, but related, concern is where the gun points when holstered on in the waistband: Toward the groin area. This positioning would seem to violate one of the central rules of gun handling: Never point a gun at something you do not want to destroy.

For individuals who want to use appendix carry, the risk of injury during negligent discharge and the direction the gun points are often deterring factors. But, should it be? There are some reasons to think that appendix carry is really not that dangerous, particularly for responsible gun owners who take the time to mitigate the risk.

All gun handling carries risk.

Here We Go Again

 Here we go again.

Marriott International is not a "Johnny come lately" to woke advertising unlike Anheuser-Busch. For the past several years (at least since 2014), some of their ads have been targeting for LGBTQ clients. That's all fine and dandy.

As far as I am concerned, what someone does in their bedroom (or, in this case, hotel room) is their business. But we're seeing a constant bombardment of such advertising focusing on "alternative lifestyles". I, and many others, are tired of seeing it. There seems to be a campaign to make such lifestyles (or behaviors) mainstream.

This ad popped up on Facebook:

If one approves of such advertising, that's fine. But if one objects to such advertising, that's fine as well. They shouldn't be surprised if they get major flak over it.

Apparently they haven't learned anything from the Bud Light experience.

Coffee Ad Pays Tribute To Haruo Nakajima

This is a Japanese advertisement for Boss Coffee, a major coffee brand (part of Suntory) in Japan. This ad is three years old, but it is only now that I've seen it (thanks to Stan Hyde).

Although a coffee ad, it pays tribute to Haruo Nakajima and what he endured while playing the King of the Monsters.

Points To Keep In Mind Before Buying Silver

Above, a recent ad from Facebook.

With inflation decimating the value of our dollars, many people (including me) are turning towards investing in precious metals (i.e., gold and silver).

Since gold is too pricey for me (it is around $1,800 an ounce), I have turned to silver (around $23.60 an ounce) instead.

For those who are new to silver investing, there's a few things to be mindful of and an article from BQ Prime which should be a great help.

They begin with:

Silver has always been a great precious metal to invest your money in. It’s perfect for new investors with limited capital as well as for veterans who simply want to invest in silver. Whatever your reason may be, investing in silver is definitely a wise decision.

According to the World Silver Survey 2022 published by The Silver Institute, India is currently the world’s third-largest silver physical investment market after the US and Germany. Last year, i.e. in 2021, digital silver and silver ETFs were also launched in India making it an apt time to invest in silver.

Now, you might be really excited to buy silver and start investing in it, but hold your horses before you make any mistakes. Silver prices are also dynamic in nature, similar to gold prices. It fluctuates depending on the international market.

Moreover, there are some other factors as well that you need to consider before investing in silver. Let’s take a look at some points you need to keep in mind before investing in silver:

Gun Control Groups Target Firearm-Related Speech

Each time the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down some liberal-generated gun law, another pops up and new tactics are employed by radical left anti-Second Amendment groups.

The latest tactic (which is really not an old one) is to target firearm related speech.

From the NRA-ILA:

Gun control advocates have renewed a longstanding plan to have the Federal Trade Commission (which regulates commercial speech) punish firearms manufacturers for how they advertise firearms. A petition filed with the FTC by several large firearm prohibition organizations claims that any suggestion firearms provide protection to their owners or make their homes safer is tantamount to false advertising. The petition also suggests that the use of patriotic, militaristic, or macho images and languages in firearm advertising – the same themes used to sell everything from beer to vehicles to sun glasses – is deliberately being used to appeal to insurrectionists and mass shooters.

While both accusations are so outlandish as to defy serious rebuttal – even the CDC has substantiated the pervasive reality of defensive gun use against crime – it remains to be seen if the FTC will nevertheless take the bait. Anti-gun members of Congress certainly have and recently held a hearing to try to give impetus to this political narrative of “illegal” firearm advertising.

Fortunately, the “social utility” of firearms isn’t up to some unelected bureaucrats at the FTC or any other federal agency. Any argument over the utility of arms for self-defense was settled in 1791 when their use for defensive purposes was enshrined in the constitution.

Good Beer Blimp Gondola At Albuquerque Sunport

Above, the gondola of one Good Beer Blimp. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

While waiting for Jessica's plane to arrive at the Albuquerque Sunport, I was wandering around the terminal. As I was coming down an escalator, I spotted an interesting display. It was the gondola to an experimental advertising blimp, the Good Beer Blimp.

I am guessing it was experimental as the motor ran on liquid propane.

Above, the gondola was made from a Cessna 337 Skymaster. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

According to the USML Digital Library:

The "Good Beer Blimp Busch" is the latest high-flying sales promotion vehicle for Anheuser-Busch Inc., a company spokesman said Thursday.

Above, an inside view from the front. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Apparently, there were two Good Beer Blimps. One was the Anheuser-Busch Good Beer Blimp Busch and the other was the Good Beer Blimp Budweiser.

I couldn't tell from the gondola or the display's card which Good Year Blimp this one was.

Above, the display card. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The blimp only lasted about two years as it had stability and other issues and it consumed its propane fuel at a fast rate.

RVIA Is Ignoring Baby Boomers In Ad Campaign

Above, at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

It has been true to a certain extent that advertising has targeted younger people over the years. Sometimes marketers ignore some age groups who have the most disposable money to spend.

Now, it seems that an ad campaign for RV buyers is ignoring the baby boomer generation and is targeting younger generations.

According to RV Travel:

OPINION

I’ve got some good news and some bad news for longtime baby boomer RVers. The good news is that the “seniors” age group likely won’t be getting bombarded (as much) with ads and emails encouraging you to purchase a new RV. While RV manufacturers and dealers will still gladly take your money, those born between 1946 and 1964 are no longer the prime target market for RV makers and sellers.

The bad news is that Go RVing™, the multi-million-dollar, 25-year-old marketing program run by the RV Industry Association, is setting its well-funded sights squarely on the new generation of RV buyers, which numbers in the millions.

The average age of RV buyers is dropping… fast

A recent RV Industry Association study found that the average age of a new RV buyer has dropped rapidly, and now sits at around 33 years of age.
