On Monday morning, I got a bottle of 38 Plus insecticide to spray the pine tree (I'm told that it's a blue spruce). According to the arborist/nurseryman, its problem is with mites, not bark beetles.
That afternoon, I sprayed as much of the tree as I could reach with some emphasis on the trunk along with the branches. Hopefully, it will take care of the problem.
I am also hopeful that the nighttime freezing temperatures will also kill off the mites.
