Today is New Years Eve.
It has been somewhat a tradition for me to pop in the cassette (or CD) on New Years Ever of the famous live performance of Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles and Billy Cox that took place on New Years Eve 1969 at the Fillmore East. It has been immortalized in the album, Band of Gypsys.
Ironically, the album was a settlement of a lawsuit against Hendrix and it was released by Capitol Records in the U.S. instead of Hendrix's usual record label Reprise Records. Hendrix did not like the album cover photo used. He felt that it looked like he was capitulating.
The Band of Gypsys album includes the greatest version of "Machine Gun". Everything came together with that song.
So, for your listening and viewing pleasure, here is "Machine Gun". Happy New Year!
