Jeff Beck Dead At 78

I hate waking up to sad news.

The latest is guitar legend Jeff Beck, came upon the scene as Eric Clapton's replacement guitarist with the Yardbirds.

According to ABC News:

Musician Jeff Beck has died after contracting bacterial meningitis, according to his family.

He was 78 years old.

"On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck's passing," his representatives said in a statement. "After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family asks for privacy while they process this tremendous loss."

Beck, one of rock's legendary guitarists, first burst onto the scene as a member of the British band the Yardbirds. He joined the band as a replacement for fellow guitar legend Eric Clapton in 1965.

The stuff that now passes as "music", particularly rock 'n roll, leaves me cold. So, to start off the week, here's a video of a classic rock artist.  

To start off the week, we have Derek & The Dominos with "Layla".

Derek and the Dominos was an English–American blues rock band formed in the spring of 1970 by guitarist and singer Eric Clapton, keyboardist and singer Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon.

Although "Layla" was released in 1970 in the band's only studio album, the song became a top ten hit in March 1972 in the U.S. and United Kingdom.

To start off this week, and it is not death-related (thankfully), is a video from 1965 of The Yardbirds playing "Heart Full of Soul".

Today is "Crossroads" by Cream, that consisted of Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. They were active from 1966 to 1968.

Eric Clapton To Tour Japan In February

Rocker Eric Clapton has announced that he will be touring Japan this coming February. This will be his 20th concert tour to Japan.

According to Japan Today:

According to an official announcement, Clapton will be touring Japan for the first time in two and a half years to play seven dates at Budokan, Yokahama Arena, Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium and Osaka-jo Hall from Feb 18 to 28 next year.

Clapton is now 68 years old and says he'll tour until he's 70.
