The Japanese bullet train system is expanding into Hokkaido in 2016 and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) is preparing travel agents and media organizations in the United States.
According to an article in the Japan Times:
NEW YORK – The Japan National Tourism Organization plans to hold seminars in the United States this year to promote the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line that is slated to open in spring 2016.
The JNTO hopes the seminars, targeting U.S. travel agencies and media organizations, will lead to an increase in the number of American tourists drawn to Hokkaido’s varied attractions.
The agency plans to offer the seminars in New York and other cities, including on the West Coast.The Hokkaido Shinkansen will take passengers from Aomori (in northern Honshu) through the Seikan Tunnel to Hakodate. An extension of the line to Sapporo is planned to open in 2035.
