Around three years ago, I had a strongbox my late dad left opened by a locksmith in Gallup. I had the strongbox in my closet for years, but had no key to open it up to see what was inside.
Inside, were around 20 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars along with several Franklin Half Dollars and $2.00 bills among other items.
With silver's spot price around $70/troy ounce currently, this find is a lot more valuable. During the time of the strongbox opening, the spot price was around $24.00/troy ounce. The Kennedy Half Dollars were in uncirculated or near-uncirculated condition.
1964 Kennedy Half Dollars had 90% silver content. After 1964, the silver content was reduced to 40% until about 1970.
