NYC Sanitation Bosses Caused Deaths

Did New York City's Sanitation Dept. (who is responsible for snow-plowing the streets) intentionally slow their snow-plowing operations during the recent snow storms?

According to the New York Post, they did intentionally order a work slowdown.

CBS News.com reports:

The New York Post is reporting that Sanitation Department bosses in New York City's outer boroughs ordered their drivers to slow snow removal in protest over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.

City Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Queens, told the Post that he was visited by guilt-ridden sanitation workers who told him about their bosses' plot.

The New York Post wrote:

These garbage men really stink.

Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts -- a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, The Post has learned.

Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens, to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.

Mark Steyn, who is guest-hosting today's Rush Limbaugh show, said that this action caused the deaths of a 75-year-old woman and a newborn baby because first responders could not reach them in time.

I'd say the perpetrators of this scheme need to be prosecuted.

Mark Steyn's Live Tea or Die!

Mark Steyn has an amusing article on the coverage of the tea parties held on Tax Day (April 15, the Democrats' favorite day) entitled, Live Tea Or Die!

It reads in part:

Asked about the tea parties, President Obama responded that he was not aware of them. As Marie Antoinette said, “Let them drink Lapsang Souchong.” His Imperial Majesty at Barackingham Palace having declined to acknowledge the tea parties, his courtiers at the Globe and elsewhere fell into line. Talk-show host Michael Graham spoke to one attendee at the 2009 Boston Tea Party who remarked of the press embargo: “If Obama had been the King of England, the Globe wouldn’t have covered the American revolution.”

The American media, having run their own business into the ground, are certainly qualified to run everybody else’s into the same abyss. Which is why they’ve decided that hundreds of thousands of citizens protesting taxes and out-of-control spending and government vaporization of Americans’ wealth and their children’s future is no story. Nothing to see here. As Nancy Pelosi says, it’s AstroTurf — fake grassroots, not the real thing.

"Obama In 2-D"

Mark Steyn wrote an excellent piece on Barack Obama, "Obama In 2-D" in which he compares the 2-D Obama the cartoon with the 3-D Obama the man.

Part of what Steyn wrote:

The problem is we’re not electing a symbol, a logo, a two-dimensional image. Long before he emerged on the national stage as Barack the Hope-Giver and Bringer of Change, there was a three-dimensional Barack Obama, a real man who lives in the real world. And that’s where the problem lies.

The Senator and his doting Obots in the media have gone to great lengths to obscure what Barack Obama does when he’s not being a symbol: his voting record, his friends, his patrons, his life outside the soft-focus memoirs is deemed non-relevant to the general hopey-changey vibe. But occasionally we get a glimpse. The offhand aside to Joe the Plumber about “spreading the wealth around” was revealing because it suggests a crude redistributive view of “social justice.” Yet the nimble Hope-a-Dope sidestepper brushed it aside, telling a crowd in Raleigh that next John McCain will be “accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten.”

The communist line falls flat as there is a difference between sharing toys voluntarily and having the government come in and force someone to share their toys (or, the wealth).

This is informative as it separates the media image Obama with the real Obama.
