"There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit." - President Ronald Reagan.

Artist Tackles National Anthem Controversy With Painting

We've all seen the "official" portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama that were unveiled a few weeks ago to very mixed reviews.

Now we have a portrait of President Donald Trump with a tattered and trampled U.S. flag at a football field.

According to Fox News:
A Utah artist is opening up on why he joined the national anthem protest debate by painting President Donald Trump on a football field cleaning the mud off of a tattered and trampled American flag.
Jon McNaughton wrote on his website that he created the piece -- titled "Respect the Flag" -- because he respects the president for standing up to athletes who refused to stand for the anthem.

We need more artists like McNaughton!

Travel With The Obamas

While Americans are struggling to make ends meet, the Obamas have been living "high on the hog" at taxpayers' expense.

Recently, Barack and Michelle Obama came to Los Angeles in separate planes. Michelle Obama has just concluded a junket trip to Japan and Cambodia, also at the expense of taxpayers.

Investors.com wrote:
Just a quick update, as you organize to file your income taxes, on the Obama family's lavish travel expenses that your money is underwriting. Financing might be a better word.
Barack and Michelle Obama have traveled more than any other first couple -- doing Spain, Africa, China, South America, among other distant spots. Often they're accompanied by friends and Michelle Obama's Mom, Marian Robinson, who's been living in the White House at taxpayer expense since her son-in-law's inauguration. And in some cases, Mrs. Robinson's friends tag along.
By one accounting, as of last July the Obamas had spent more than $44.4 million in taxpayer money on travel for 31 international trips lasting 119 days. For comparison, at the same point in his presidency Ronald Reagan had made 14 trips lasting 73 days.
When you read the full article, you will see that the car rental industry, among others, are really making a mint off the Obamas.

Michelle Obama Is No Pioneer

Above, Pat Nixon in Saudi Arabia in 1974.

It is sometimes funny how the media just fawns over the Obamas.

The latest is this on Michelle Obama from the Associated Press:
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — For first lady Michelle Obama, just a few hours in Saudi Arabia were enough to illustrate the stark limitations under which Saudi women live.
Joining President Barack Obama for a condolence visit after the death of the King Abdullah, Mrs. Obama stepped off of Air Force One wearing long pants and a long, brightly colored jacket — but no headscarf.
The media seems to be trying to make Michelle Obama as some sort of pioneer or something by not wearing a headscarf in Saudi Arabia, a strict Islamic country.

Well, First Lady Pat Nixon did not do so either during a state visit to Saudi Arabia in 1974. So Pat has Michelle beat by nearly 41 years.

Obama's "Manic Depression"

Folks are really getting into the swing of President Obama's "channeling" of Jimi Hendrix with his "they talk about me like a dog" quip right out of Hendrix's song "Stone Free."

Political commentator Michelle Malkin has a post at her site by Doug Powers, titled, "The Barack Obama Experience — Taxes: Bold as Love." (Jimi's band was the Jimi Hendrix Experience and their second album was "Axis: Bold As Love.")

In the article, Powers noted:

As it turns out, some intrepid researchers are speculating that Obama might have been channeling a line from the Jimi Hendrix song “Stone Free.”

I was skeptical at first, but it kind of makes sense, because another line in that song is “I got to, got to, got to get away” — perfect for somebody who just came off several weeks worth of vacations.

This is just the beginning of the fun. Powers and people commenting on the article came up with some clever Hendrixesque lines. The one I like is one from Powers:

“Spanish Castle Magic” would cover the first lady’s Antoinette-esque trip to Costa del Sol.

By the way, the first Jimi Hendrix Experience album, "Are You Experienced?" includes a song called "Manic Depression." Perhaps it is fitting that Jimi Hendrix is getting this attention as this month marks the 40th anniversary of his death.

Economic Recovery Losing Momentum

The online edition of the Wall Street Journal reports that the unemployment rate held steady at 9.5%, "a further sign the economic recovery may be losing momentum."

They report:

Nonfarm payrolls fell by 131,000 last month as the rise in private-sector employment was not enough to make up for the government jobs lost, the U.S. Labor Department said Friday. Only 71,000 private-sector jobs were added last month while 143,000 temporary workers on the 2010 census were let go.

After the worst recession in decades, the recovery that began in July 2009 has recently been losing momentum, but it's hard to say if it's just a temporary slowdown or if the economy could start to contract again.

This is happening as First Lady Michelle Obama vacations in Spain on the backs of the taxpayers. She's is beginning to be called Marie Antoinette.

If you think this is bad, just wait for what happens in January when taxes are hiked!

How's that hope and change working out for you?
