Jeep Drive

Since nice sunny days have been a rarity in the Four Corners region, I had the opportunity yesterday afternoon to take a Jeep drive. I saw other community residents out with their ATVs and side-by-sides during the day.

I headed on Six Mile Canyon Road to the entrance to Six Mile Canyon marked with a corral and national forest signage.

One culvert along Six Mile Canyon Road was full of mud, but other vehicles made a good pathway through the muck so I was able to proceed through.

One of the signs at the entrance to Six Mile Canyon (just beyond the corral) provided a notice that the canyon will be closed to vehicles starting December 15 to March 31. So we have a month and a half to be able to drive in Six Mile Canyon.

When I stopped at the signs, I took a couple of photos:

I had a much enjoyable drive than the people stuck in stopped traffic (at the same time) westbound on Interstate 40 . Apparently, construction caused the tie-up at the road to Red Rock Park near Gallup.

No Plinking This Week

Above, Six Mile Canyon Road yesterday. Photo by Nandoh Munoz.

The plan for this week was to take out my Ruger 10/22 out to the shooting area to adjust the rifle scope. But the week's weather wasn't cooperating.

The idea was to go either on Monday or Wednesday to do the shooting. Larry Lucier was going to come along.

The rains started on Monday and continued everyday since. More is expected today. The area where the shooting area is located is now a swamp.

We would drive out there in Larry's bus, but the dirt roads would be muddy messes and the chances of getting the bus stuck in mud would be high. Even Six Mile Canyon Road, the main road for getting to the shooting area is a muddy mess. It flooded two days ago with the culverts overflowing. I wouldn't even attempt driving in those conditions with the Jeep.

Larry's wheelchair would also probably get stuck in the mud at the shooting area. As things turned out, his wheelchair broke yesterday, so it if broke in muddy conditions at the shooting area, that would be a double whammy.

I guess things will have to wait.

Big Lightning Display Yesterday

Above, from yesterday's Jeep drive looking west.

My Jeep drive yesterday was enjoyable.

It was a short one as I saw storm clouds moving into the area. So I decided to head back home.

It was a good thing I did. About two hours after heading home, we were treated to a big lightning display. The lightning seemed predominantly to the north of our subdivision in the vicinity of Six Mile Canyon Road and Interstate 40.

While relaxing on the sofa and looking out the front door's storm door, I was able to see the lightning bolts. It was a great display.
