A moderate earthquake rattled the Hawthorne area this evening. The preliminary report was that it was a 5.0 quake that hit at 8:39 p.m., about 10 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, near Inglewood/Hawthorne.
Other reports indicated that it was a 4.7 temblor.
I felt it, but due to the distance (about 20-25 miles from me), it felt like a 3.0.

I'm surprised that the quake was felt all the way to Mexico. That's quite a wide area.
Thank goodness it was only around a 5.0 magnitude.
It really depends upon the depth of the quake and the composition of the ground.
So they felt it in Mexico? Interesting.
