Blue States Defy SCOTUS With Extreme Gun Bans

Above, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

Leftist/liberal states such as Colorado, Virginia and others are passing laws that are already in violation of the U.S. Supreme Court's District of Columbia vs. Heller decision. They are flouting the Heller ruling.

They are passing laws banning firearms that are commonly used for hunting and other shooting sports.

This defiance of the Supreme Court is a major concern.

AMAC (The Association of Mature American Citizens) posted an article on this. They begin it with:

Earlier this month, Virginia Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger added the Old Dominion to the list of states taking square aim at the Second Amendment by signing a so-called “assault weapons” ban into law. The move was met with immediate legal challenges from pro-Second Amendment groups and even a promise from the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, Harmeet Dhillon, that she will “see you in court!”

Days later, Spanberger herself unintentionally aided those challenges by admitting that the law she just signed bans guns “frequently used for hunting.” In fact, the law applies to vast swaths of firearms that can hardly be considered “weapons of war” as Democrats claim, including many pistols commonly owned for home defense.

But given the state of play in other Democrat-controlled states throughout the country, one can forgive Spanberger for thinking that she can get away with such a blatantly unconstitutional gun grab. Despite the Supreme Court ruling that such bans, like the one Spanberger just signed, violate the Second Amendment in the landmark District of Columbia v. Heller decision in 2008, liberal states continue to flout that ruling and unlawfully infringe on Americans’ constitutional rights.

Making The Best of It

Above, yesterday on the deck. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

One nice thing about being out in God's County is having great views and decent weather to sit outside with a class of ice tea if one is under a stay-at-home order.

The mailbox had three magazines in it yesterday, so I poured some Arizona ice tea and brought out the CD player and read.

Two of the three magazines were outdoors oriented, Motorhome and Outside. The third was from AMAC (the conservative alternative to AARP).

My improvised attachment of the old side view mirror of the Jeep didn't last too long, so I have to wait until the new one arrives in the mail. I can still drive it in Six Mile Canyon, but would probably get cited if I try driving to the Flying J.

At least I have plenty of food and other necessities here to avoid trips into Gallup, at least for a week and a half.

Retirement, Etc.

In the excitement over our new arrival, I am forgetting that as of this Friday, I am retired from the grime of working nights.

The Social Security end of it begins next March (it starts the following month after your birthday).

My task of late, besides getting things ready for Sierra, is to find an affordable healthcare plan to replace the one I got through work.

"The Affordable Care Act" is a total lie as medical coverage costs have gone through the roof and the lowest one I found for 2016 was through AMAC for $509 a month. Yes, you read that right. A month!

Some people are paying $800+ per month. That's almost the cost of my current rent. I don't see how they can do it unless they have a subsidy or have the income of a Bill Gates.

A lot of them say, "Oh, this is a Godsend as my wife has a re-existing condition and it covers it." Well, that's nice. But your're robbing Peter to pay for Paul's (or Pauline's) medical bills. Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money.

I will dig around to see if a cheaper one can be found. As a retiree, I may qualify for a subsidy on the exchanges. I will be checking that out.

You can thank Barack Obama and the Democrat Party for making a total mess of things! Many already have by voting quite a number of Democrats out of office.
