Cubans Fleeing To Houston, Texas

Cubans fleeing Cuba has traditionally gone to Florida, this is still the case. But many are heading to the Houston, Texas area.

According to the Houston Chronicle:

Historic numbers of Cubans are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Customs and Border Protection, which clocked more than 175,000 encounters with Cubans at the southwest border in fiscal year 2022.

Roughly 9,000 of these Cubans have headed to Houston this fiscal year, making the city an emerging destination for Cuban arrivals, according to data from the five Houston-area refugee resettlement agencies that offer federal assistance to Cubans. This number doesn’t take into account any Cubans who might have moved to Houston from other parts of the country.

In 2019, greater Houston already had the second largest population of Cubans outside of Florida — at least 29,000 people, according to analysis by the nonpartisan think-tank Migration Policy Institute. The metro area is becoming an increasingly important landing point for Cuban immigrants, and may continue to see growth in this community as poverty and other country conditions push people out of Cuba and the United States continues to allow Cubans in.

Good! These Cubans know first hand how miserable life is under socialism/communism and can educate people who may be enticed by Democrat propaganda.

Trump At The Border Wall

A few minutes ago, former President Donald Trump finished his remarks at the border wall in Texas.

It was a good thing he finished his talk when he did. I was sitting out on the deck watching and it started to rain at about the same time.

He was in good form. He pointed out how secure the U.S.-Mexico border was while he was president and what a humanitarian mess His Fraudulency Joe Biden turned it into.

Before his talk, he spoke at a briefing that was covered by the Houston Chronicle:

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday slammed President Joe Biden and his administration for stopping construction of the border wall and his other immigrations policies, which Trump said is why the border is now seeing a record surge of illegal crossings.

“We did a hell of a job,” Trump said at the briefing at the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Weslaco Regional Office. ““Now we have an open, really dangerous border.”

Trump spoke at a briefing near the Texas border where Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety told him that border security has only gotten worse since he left office. Abbott said the situation has become “amazing and disastrous” on the border.

Thoughts and Prayers To The Nguyen Family

When one gets older, we inevitably have to deal with the passing of our parents. It is to be expected, but it still doesn't make it any easier. I had to deal with my father's death 15 years ago and my mother's five years ago (the fifth anniversary will be in five days).

Thanks to friends and family, it made those ordeals somewhat easier to cope with. The first message of condolence I received following my mother's death was from actress Christine Nguyen. Her gesture was very much appreciated and not forgotten.

Since then, a couple of coincidences have come to light, of which Christine and I have marveled about.

First, we both were born on February 4. And, second, our mothers were both born on March 11. What were the odds of that happening?

Unfortunately, a third "coincidence" has occurred.

Christine's mother Kim passed away last week after a long illness. Once I learned the news, I sent Christine a condolence email. I know that her mom's passing hit her and her family hard. Christine was very close to her mom.

Yes, Christine's mother and my mother both earned their "angel wings" in the month of January.

Yesterday, Christine posted the obituary she wrote that will be appearing in today's Houston Chronicle. It is a very lovely tribute to her mother and I thought I would share it here.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Christine and her family during their time of grief.
