Nixon, Connally and Shotgun In Oval Office

Here's an interesting photo.

Former Texas Governor John B. Connally with a shotgun and President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office in 1971.

The photo's caption by Michael Beschloss reads:

President Nixon and his Treasury Secretary, John Connally, survivor of JFK assassination in Dallas 1963, with shotgun in Oval Office, 1971.  Astonishing.

Apparently, the Parkland Hospital's doctors did a great job on Connally's right wrist in 1963. I shook hands with him in San Diego at a California Republican Party Convention in 1973 and he had a good strong grip.

Woman Arrested After Shooting At Dallas Love Field

Above, inside one of Dallas Love Field's terminals last year. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Crazies firing guns in public places apparently aren't confined to 20-something males.

A woman was taken into custody after being shot by police after she fired a gun in a Dallas Love Field terminal yesterday. Fortunately, nobody else in the terminal was injured.

She was identified as Portia Odufuwa, 37. She has a lengthy criminal record, including bank robbery.

According to the Gateway Pundit:

A shooting was reported at Dallas Love Field Airport Monday morning.

According to Dallas police, a 37-year-old woman was shot after firing several rounds inside Dallas Love Field Airport.

NBCDFW reported that the woman was dropped off at the airport and immediately walked into a bathroom where she changed her clothing.

The woman walked out of the bathroom wearing a hoodie and began shooting at the ceiling before police shot her in her ‘lower extremities.’

The woman was transported from the airport and taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where her condition is unknown.

I was last at Dallas Love Field a year and a half ago when I took a trip to Dallas and Fort Worth to see the John Wayne: An American Experience, Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza and Southfork Ranch.

Original Parkland Hospital Building To Be Demolished

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, housed in the former Texas School Book Depository building, posted the following on Facebook:

When I was in Dallas last year, I didn't think to visit Parkland Hospital as I was aware that the original building had been remodeled, probably more than once. The emergency entrance was also changed and actually moved to a different, and newer building.

Trauma Room 1, where Kennedy was pronounced dead, was dismantled and its contents had been saved and in storage near Kansas City, Missouri according to a WFAA article.

David Hogg's Attempted Extortion of Publix Fails

Above, "Teen Tyrant" David Hogg.

ex·tor·tion
ikˈstôrSH(ə)n/
noun
  1. the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.

Keeping above in mind, a news story last week pitted "Teen Tyrant" David Hogg against the Publix grocery chain in Florida.

According to The Gateway Pundit:
Publix CEO Todd Jones on Tuesday told the father of a Parkland, Florida student killed in the February 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that the Florida-based supermarket chain would not be making a donation to the school’s student fund. Last week leftist revolutionary Parkland student gun control activist David Hogg demanded Publix give $1 million to the Stoneman Douglas Victim’s fund to atone for donating a reported $670,000 in recent years to Adam Putnam, a pro-NRA Florida Republican running for governor. Hogg led a die-in inside Publix stores last Friday to protest Publix’s support for Putnam, who is currently Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner.

This is nothing but extortion. Hogg led die-ins at Publix stores impeding commerce and demanded $1,000,000 to the Stoneman Douglas Victim's Fund. Publix refused.

So what if the company made campaign donations to a pro-NRA politician? The NRA had absolutely nothing to do with the Parkland school shooting.

Hogg should be prosecuted for extortion.

David "The Attention" Hogg Exposed

Above, David Hogg.

My, my.

Ever since the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida last week, a so-called "student" named David Hogg has been basking in the limelight by appearing on different networks' news.

It turns out that there is more to David "The Attention" Hogg than meets the eye.

According to NeonNettle:
As more and more questions about the authenticity of some of the Flordia shooting witnesses emerge, it has been revealed that David Hogg may not only be a 'crisis actor' but also a puppet for the John Podesta funded Center For Amerian Progress.
A quick look back at his tweets reveals Hogg's posts seemed to be dedicated to the Podesta organization.
On the surface, the organization mission statement is to prevent sexual assaults, but as we all know, anything connected to the Clintons warrants further investigation.
And, an Antifa group claims he was not a student where the shooting took place:
“David Hogg didn’t attend #Parkland high school. I went to school with him at Redondo Shores High School in California and he graduated in 2015. Here he is in our yearbook from 2015. He always wanted to work for CNN and be an actor.”

The liberal media is trying to debunk the aforementioned. Even if they are, there's no denying that this kid is an attention hog.

Sheriff Scott Israel Must Go!

There have been some crazy statements that public officials have made over the years, but this one certainly takes the cake.

Breitbart.com reported:
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told a reporter that his deputy failing to enter the school while the shooting was in progress was not his responsibility.
“I gave him a gun. I gave him a badge. I gave him the training,” Sheriff Israel told an NBC6 South Florida reporter in a video interview tweeted by Erika Glover. “If he didn’t have the heart to go in, that’s not my responsibility.”
If you are the ONLY police officer with a gun and an obligation to rescue and protect those kids, I don't care if no other officers will be coming before CNN arrives - get in there and kill the bastard with the gun!  No excuses, no hiding, no equivocating.  That is what the officers all sign up for and they know it.  You rush in, not wait, not strategize, you rush the building and take out as many shooters as possible and protect the innocents, regardless of the cost to your own life.  Pure, simple, unequivocal.

The failure by the Broward County Sheriff's Department is one of epic proportions! As the man in charge, Israel bears full responsibility. He should immediately resign or be fired!

He's "not responsible", he says? Obviously, he doesn't get the concept of respondeat superior.

"San Andreas"

Today, I went to see the disaster flick, San Andreas.

The San Andreas fault begins to shift, causing big earthquakes (a 7.1 quake at the Hoover Dam begins the disaster) that devastates Los Angeles and San Francisco and most points along the fault zone.

The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Paul Giamatti, Will Yun Lee and  Kylie Minogue. Daddario provides the "eye candy" in the movie.

I thought I recognized Paul Giamatti (who played a Caltech scientist) early in the movie. He played Abraham Zapruder in the movie, Parkland.

The earthquake special effects (all CGI) were okay, but a few flawed shots managed to get past the editors.

The story itself (by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore) was passable.

Of the recent movies we've seen, San Andreas ranks somewhere in the middle, with Love & Mercy the best and Poltergeist (a remake) being the worst. At least San Andreas was entertaining.

My grade: B.

"Parkland" (2013)

After reading articles on Parkland, the 2013 movie on what transpired at Dallas, Texas' Parkland Memorial Hospital following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, I was very much interested in seeing it.

Parkland was directed by Peter Landesman. Actors include Zac Efron, Tom Welling, Billy Bob Thornton and Paul Giamatti.

Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by it.

The movie begins with the President's breakfast banquet in Fort Worth with intercut scenes of the hospital's staff getting ready for the day's work in treating emergency room patients and dressmaker Abraham Zapruder's morning in his office. These scenes are augmented by actual film footage of President Kennedy in Fort Worth.

The movie then goes into the President's arrival at Dallas Love Field and the motorcade through downtown Dallas (again, with actual film footage shot that day). These are intercut with Abraham Zapruder going into Dealey Plaza with his secretary to find a suitable spot to film the Presidential motorcade as it made its way down Elm Street.

Next, the movie goes into the assassination and the President's arrival at Parkland Hospital (incredibly, there is not a single mention that I could detect that Texas Governor John Connally was even in the limousine with Kennedy or that he was also wounded) and the efforts to save his life. Was it standard procedure for ER doctors and nurses to not wear surgical masks in 1963 while treating the President, but to wear them while treating his assassin? It was, according to this movie.

After this, the movie shifts to a dazed and upset Zapruder and his efforts to have his home movie of the assassination developed while under escort by Forrest Sorrels of the Dallas bureau of the Secret Service and Robert Oswald's reaction to finding that his brother Lee is accused of assassinating the President and Dallas Police Officer J. D. Tippit.

The movie does delve into the events of the weekend, including the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald while being moved to the County Jail.

Frankly, these events should rivet a viewer's attention, but instead, I found them to be dull as dishwater and not well-acted. The movie's score was also unremarkable. Plus, I saw some niggling factual errors. I'll just mention a couple.

First, Zapruder suffered from vertigo and needed his secretary to hold him on the pedestal in Dealey Plaza to steady him. In the movie, he climbs up alone as she stands below. In reality, she stood up on the pedestal with him and held him as he filmed the assassination.

Second, the movie shows Vice President Lyndon Johnson being hustled out of Parkland Hospital with his head and upper body held down by a swarming circle of Secret Service agents. In reality, Johnson walked briskly and upright out of the hospital with Secret Service agents a few feet away.

Those are two things immediately caught my attention. I am certain there are plenty more factual errors.

And, there was one glaring omission.

In his efforts to get his film developed, Zapruder went to television station WFAA with Secret Service agent Forrest Sorrels, but found that they did not have the facilities to develop 8mm film. While there at the station, he was interviewed on live television by WFAA's Jay Watson. The interview was completely omitted from the movie.

Parkland does have its moments, but as a whole, it was very disappointing. The 1973 movie, Executive Action, starring Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan (a movie that rarely ever gets mentioned), is a lot more interesting, despite its low budget and that it was a fictional conspiracy story promoted by Mark Lane.

My grade: C.
