"San Andreas"

Today, I went to see the disaster flick, San Andreas.

The San Andreas fault begins to shift, causing big earthquakes (a 7.1 quake at the Hoover Dam begins the disaster) that devastates Los Angeles and San Francisco and most points along the fault zone.

The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Paul Giamatti, Will Yun Lee and  Kylie Minogue. Daddario provides the "eye candy" in the movie.

I thought I recognized Paul Giamatti (who played a Caltech scientist) early in the movie. He played Abraham Zapruder in the movie, Parkland.

The earthquake special effects (all CGI) were okay, but a few flawed shots managed to get past the editors.

The story itself (by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore) was passable.

Of the recent movies we've seen, San Andreas ranks somewhere in the middle, with Love & Mercy the best and Poltergeist (a remake) being the worst. At least San Andreas was entertaining.

My grade: B.
