Legendary CEO Thomas Tull On "Godzilla vs. King Kong"

Variety has posted an article on what motivates Thomas Tull to want to produce Godzilla vs. King Kong.

Their article begins with:

Thomas Tull may end up making a fortune on “Godzilla vs. King Kong,” but the Legendary Entertainment founder and CEO admits that he had far more primal ambitions for backing the monster mash-up.

Godzilla vs. King Kong To Be Part of Trilogy

It appears that Godzilla and King Kong will be reunited somewhere around 2020 (according to most reports).

At least, this is what an article at Huewire.com indicates, and it begins with:

Both the character, Godzilla and King Kong have an huge potential to be converted into a franchise together in one space.

The first film, “Kong: Skull Island” has an estimated budget of more than $25million, though Warner Bros. will also include it in a three-picture contract which also includes the proposed sequel and the crossover film. 

The second installment is titled “Godzilla 2″, and it will hit the theatres on June. Both films feature the human Monarch organization. 

The Legendary CEO, Thoman Tull and Warner Bros CEO, Kevin Tsujihara made the announcement and combined the epic monsters in a trilogy. 

Who would you like to see appear in the trilogy alongside Godzilla and King Kong?

At the dinner party last Tuesday night, the subject of pairing Godzilla with King Kong came up. My Toho dinner guests couldn't say (it was essentially a "we don't know," but with big winks and grins that even George Reeves would envy), but the indicators are that the "rematch" is a definite "go".

"Godzilla 2" To Feature Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah

It must be true! (Either that or four sources have it all wrong.)

I received four news bulletins with the same news from this year's San Diego Comic Con that Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull announced the line-up of monsters for Godzilla 2.

Here's what one of the sources, Flickering Myth, wrote:

Kicking off today’s Legendary Pictures Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Legendary CEO Thomas Tull offered up a first look teaser for the sequel to this year’s Godzilla, which revealed that the sequel will see the King of the Monsters going up against three of his classic foes in Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah!

 Although many G-fans were a bit tired of Toho's overuse of Mothra before Godzilla was put out to pasture ten years ago, it will be interesting to see how an American production company handles the character. Ghidorah and Rodan were always fan favorites and their inclusion should be pleasing news.

Legendary CEO Thomas Tull Reveals "Godzilla" Break-even Amount

Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealed the break-even amount for Godzilla.

According to the article:

As Legendary Pictures gets ready to unleash its new Godzilla movie on May 16, Legendary CEO Thomas Tull said that the $160 million movie could begin to turn a profit once it hits $450 million at the worldwide boxoffice.

“Starting a new franchise, if it did $450 million worldwide, anything above that would be pretty good. It’s still expensive, but it’s not a $200 million movie,” Tull explained as part of a wide-ranging interview conducted by Hollywood Reporter executive editor Matthew Belloni at THR’s annual Power Lawyers Breakfast, which took place April 30 at Spago in Beverly Hills.
