Gareth Edwards Exits "Godzilla 2"

Deadline (and other news outlets) has reported that director Gareth Edwards has amicably dropped out of directing Godzilla 2, the planned sequel to the 2014 hit, Godzilla for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.

They wrote:

Gareth Edwards has exited Godzilla 2. I’m told the split was an amicable one for Legendary, Warner Bros and Edwards, who helmed the first film in the series in 2014 and promptly signed on to direct Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which looks from the trailer like it will be a strong next step for that franchise. Edwards has his own gestating projects he wanted to pursue, and they are smaller in scale than the back-to-back tentpole-size pictures he is directing with the Godzilla launch and then the Star Wars spinoff.

Godzilla 2 is now set for release on March 22, 2019.

Godzilla vs. King Kong To Be Part of Trilogy

It appears that Godzilla and King Kong will be reunited somewhere around 2020 (according to most reports).

At least, this is what an article at Huewire.com indicates, and it begins with:

Both the character, Godzilla and King Kong have an huge potential to be converted into a franchise together in one space.

The first film, “Kong: Skull Island” has an estimated budget of more than $25million, though Warner Bros. will also include it in a three-picture contract which also includes the proposed sequel and the crossover film. 

The second installment is titled “Godzilla 2″, and it will hit the theatres on June. Both films feature the human Monarch organization. 

The Legendary CEO, Thoman Tull and Warner Bros CEO, Kevin Tsujihara made the announcement and combined the epic monsters in a trilogy. 

Who would you like to see appear in the trilogy alongside Godzilla and King Kong?

At the dinner party last Tuesday night, the subject of pairing Godzilla with King Kong came up. My Toho dinner guests couldn't say (it was essentially a "we don't know," but with big winks and grins that even George Reeves would envy), but the indicators are that the "rematch" is a definite "go".

Godzilla 2 Will Be “Bigger” and “Better”, Japan’s ‘Godzilla’ Reboot Will Feature Amazing Hybrid Effects

People in and around the movie industry are beginning to talk about what's in store for Legendary Pictures's Godzilla 2 and the upcoming Toho Godzilla.

/Film (Slash Film) has posted an article on the two Godzilla movies.

They begin with:

Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein, who was brought back to script Godzilla 2, is speaking out for the first time giving us an idea of what we might expect from the monster sequel — and he’s throwing around words like “bigger” and “better”. Also we learn the details behind the hybrid visual effects that will make up Toho’s Godzilla reboot.

Max Borenstein Returning To Write "Godzilla 2"

The Godzilla world is abuzz with the news that screenwriter Max Borenstein will be returning to write Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros. Godzilla 2.

Moviepilot.com posted:

Legendary Pictures has closed a deal for Max Borenstein to write the screenplay for the sequel to Godzilla, which Gareth Edwards will direct. 

Borenstein wrote the script for the first Godzilla film, as well as the upcoming Skull Island, which was teased at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

I thought Borenstein did a good job with Godzilla (after several changes in writers).

Skull Island is a prequel to King Kong. Godzilla 2 is slated to be released on June 8, 2018. It should have a good screenplay, Borenstein will about three or four years to write it.
