What is the significance of this button?
The button depicts Governor Jerry Brown as a fruit fly. Back in the early 1980s, some agricultural areas of California found they were infested by the Mediterranean fruit fly. It was then Gov. Jerry Brown's vacillation in taking effective action in dealing with the crisis that almost ruined the state's agricultural industry. The inaction on Brown's part torpedoed his 1982 campaign for U.S. Senate. He was soundly defeated by Pete Wilson.
