As reported previously, Japan has expanded items on their duty-free list for foreign travelers.
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has posted a notice on this along with a tutorial video that provides details on the new duty-free system. The link to the video is within the paragraph below.
In the notice, they wrote:
As of 1st October 2014 the duty free system in Japan has changed. The number of items eligible for tax exemption have been increased and all items are now duty free, making shopping even more enjoyable and affordable. Tourists in Japan can now buy consumables including medicine, food and cosmetics, tax-free from designated shops. See more here.The above information is from the Australian branch of JNTO. I checked, but the U.S. branch does not have the duty-free information up as yet.
