When foreign visitors visit Japan (or anywhere else), they often post their experiences on social media and make recommendations on which places to visit. Based upon those recommendations, other foreign visitors will then visit those places. And so on.
An interesting thing is happening. Japanese residents are also looking at those recommendations and are visiting those places.
According to Nikkei Asian Review:
TOKYO -- A growing number of foreign tourists visiting Japan are posting information about good travel spots in the country on Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Such content is now attracting the attention of the Japanese themselves.
