The first trading day in Tokyo for 2018 saw the U.S. dollar weaken against the Japanese yen. Japan was celebrating the New Year's holiday on Monday through Wednesday, so no currency trading took place.
Jiji Press reported:
Tokyo, Jan. 4 (Jiji Press)--The dollar weakened to around 112.50 yen in Tokyo trading late on Thursday, the first market day of 2018.
At 5 p.m., the dollar stood at 112.57-58 yen, down from 112.65-65 yen at the same time on Friday.
