Wow! Clint Eastwood turned 96 today!

It is hard to believe that he has reached this milestone. Then again, it is also hard to believe that I am 24 years behind him in age!

Well, growing old is not so bad when one considers the alternative, eh?

I was forunate enough to meet him and get his autograph at the Reagan-Bush Victory Party at the Century Plaza Hotel. I had him sign my ticket to the private reception (below).

Happy Birthday, Clint!

As for getting old being "better than the alternative," Ronald Reagan said it but might have later changed his mind. (Of course, he had lost his mind by the time he might have wanted to change it.) Same with my dad, he was a very healthy guy, but got Alzheimers. In his case, getting older was definitely worse than the alternative, and I wish he could have dropped dead of a heart attack about four years earlier than he finally succumbed. Same with my mum. Physically healthy, but her last years were somewhat of a torment for her. I've heard old Clint is not doing so well mentally, but hopefully that's just internet fake news. I know he was once into life-extension/longevity practices, but if his mind is no good, he might now wish he hadn't been. As my favorite vampire, Count Dracula, once said, "There are worse things than death."

I first heard the line from my great uncle in Oregon. He lived into his 80s but got cancer. As you said, living long can be a torment, especially with a ailment that is sheer misery.
