Some guns were made and perform so well that they never became obsolete. Ones that were discontinued even outlasted their replacements.
Such is the topic of an article in The Avid Outdoorsman. They list 20 guns that were called obsolete and kept outlasting theri replacements.
They begin with:
Every few years the gun world decides something is “done.” Too heavy. Too slow. Too old-school. Then hunting season rolls around, the weather turns nasty, and the so-called outdated gun is the one that still gets grabbed on the way out the door.
I’m not saying new designs are bad. A lot of them are genuinely better. But “better on paper” doesn’t always beat “works every time, even when you’re cold, tired, and wearing gloves.” Here are 20 firearms that have been dismissed more than once, and somehow keep hanging around long after the shiny replacement gets traded off.
