I have been to Hoover Dam twice in my life.
The first time was with two friends in 1973. We took the tour that had us go down inside the dam to the machinery area. The second time was in 2018 with a couple of friends. We didn't take any tours but walked around the top of the dam.
If one is planning on visiting Hoover Dam, you have to delay your visit as it is closed to visitors currently.

What happened?
The first shutdown began on July 27, 2026, after emergency road repairs blocked public access through the site. The latest closure, announced July 29, was triggered during routine maintenance when the massive transport cableway carriage moved unexpectedly. This prompted a second closure this week.
