Republican U.S. Senate nominee of New Mexico Nella Domenici has released her first ad of the campaign against far-left Democrat Martin Heinrich.
The ad contrasts the roots of the Domenici family, including her father Sen. Pete Domenici, with that of Heinrich, who lives in Maryland.

Last evening, I received an email from the Nella Domenici for U.S. Senate campaign which reads in part:
Fellow American,
I am incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support I received from New Mexicans like you in the first 24 hours of our campaign to put our state back on track.
In just the first four hours after launching our Senate campaign, we hit the required number of nominating petition signatures to get us on the ballot!
The people of New Mexico are clearly ready for change, and we’re going to deliver for them.
Looks like Domenici's campaign is off to a good start.

One thing about Nella Domenici, besides being the daughter of former New Mexico U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, her first name jogged a memory from 46 years ago. Even though they are spelled different.
Back then, I worked at a subscription "boiler room" or telephone bank in Redondo Beach for the Los Angeles Times. I was attending CSULB at the time. Next door was a camera and projector repair shop, Torbica's Camera Repair (I believe it was). The owners were immigrants from an Eastern European country. They had a daughter, Nela. She attended Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes. I remember Nela was quite pretty as was her mother. They overhauled my Bell & Howell 8mm movie projector. It still works good to this day.
I did some digging in my photo albums and found this one in the one marked 1978-1979. It is of Nela and her brother on bikes in the parking lot at work. I hadn't heard from her since I started working in insurance claims in 1979. I did hear a rumor that her mother was killed in a car accident. But that was never verified. I don't remember who told me.
Interesting how names, places, music and other things will jog a memory.
A little while ago, I received a text message on my phone from Nella Domenici, the daughter of former Republican Senator Pete Domenici.
She is announcing her candidacy for U.S. Senate against Martin Heinrich, a radical leftist gun-grabber.
Here's the text message:
New Mexico is not swingy territory. Joe Biden won the state by 10 points in 2020. A Republican has not held a Senate seat there in 15 years. Heinrich won his last reelection in 2018 by more than 30 points.
But her father’s legacy gives the GOP a credible recruit in a region that could not otherwise be in play. And with decades of experience in the finance industry, Domenici comes with a deep fundraising network and willingness to put in some of her own funds. She will give her campaign an initial investment of $500,000.
Domenici brings a powerful name. The late Sen. Pete Domenici was a giant in New Mexico politics. He was first elected to the Senate in 1972, the same year as Biden, and was in office until 2009 — the longest-serving senator in the state’s history. He was known for his work on budget and energy policy and had a prominent bipartisan streak.
“Like my father and mother, I have been a warrior for those who most need an advocate: for women competing in academics or business, for families dealing with mental illness, and for those without access to quality healthcare or education.” Domenici said in a statement shared first with POLITICO.
She also has the backing of the Senate GOP campaign arm, which encouraged her to jump in.
“Nella’s experience at the highest levels of business, commitment to securing our border, and passion for improving education make her a strong candidate to flip this seat,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Steve Daines (R-Mont.) said in a statement.

Things are about to get quite interesting in this election year. I just signed her petition to be put on the ballot.

When I went to the Southern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo yesterday, I went during the late morning for about 3 1/2 hours.
I went back to the fair that evening to attend the rodeo. It was a good thing that I went when I did, the fair had long lines of people waiting to buy tickets and to get in.
The rodeo was set to begin at 7:00 and I arrived at 5:45. The grandstands were already beginning to be filled up with people. Later, there were long lines of people waiting to get in, but security kept them out until some left (five people leave, five were let in). It was equally as bad at the restrooms. Long lines of people were waiting to go in to take care of business. When I left the fair before the rodeo was over, hordes were still coming in. It seemed like half of Las Cruces were either in or waiting to get in. Compared to Gallup (population 21,000), Las Cruces has a population of 104,000.
The rodeo arena was named for ex-U.S. Senator Pete Domenici. It was a nice arena and had a big roof and a big screen for replays. My only gripe was that the seats had no backrests.
After a while, my lower back was aching (much of it started earlier in the day) and so I moved from the bleachers to an area where I got a good ground-level view of the rodeo events. I forgot to bring my zoom lens.
Still, I had a good time and picked up a rodeo t-shirt.
