Busy Day: The Icing Came Later

Today's been a busy day.

It started out early when I headed to the Superior Courts in Van Nuys for a mandatory settlement conference. Finding the right department, etc. was a chore and, surprisingly, we find that the conference was cancelled. Someone dropped the ball and failed to notify us. Things like this happen.

Next up, I had to go to the Woodland Hills office of the California Highway Patrol to pick up an accident report. That took place without any difficulty (no problem there, the officers at the front desk know me now).

Then, I scanned the report and sent it off to the boss in San Bernardino along with my billing sheet for this claim and for the one involving the cancelled settlement conference.

After this, I had to head off to the bank and get a bank check drawn for the first installment of the Nebraska farm's property tax. Glad that's out of the way. The final installment is due in early September.

To unwind, I finally created a separate page advertising/promoting the claims company I work for, Crittenden Claim Services. I've been meaning to do it for some time since Blogspot provides 10 separate pages for whatever subjects my heart desires. I just didn't know how to approach it. Then I decided to just scan the company's brochure and let the brochure's pages speak for the company.

So now, Crittenden Claim Services joins the pages for The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan and Two Ladies In A Car. The links to each is just below this blog's masthead photo at top.

Once that was done, I had to do some grocery shopping (gotta eat, you know). When I got home, the mailman just left my apartment building, so I went to get my mail. Lo and behold, some orders for The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan came in!

That was the icing on the cake for today.

Reminder: The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan is now available at a 20% discount through May 31! Go here for details!

At Least My Work Surroundings Are Nice

Above, at least my work surroundings are nice.

Today's Wednesday, which means it's my Monday for my Malibu job. Yuck! (Well, except for the scenery, anyway.)

At least today was productive in some respects. I met with Melissa Cyrnek of Two Ladies In A Car (see link above) and we kicked around some ideas for more promoting of the webseries site. She'll run them by her co-star, Cae Camille, and get her feedback before proceeding.

The crop in Nebraska should be in the process of being harvested at present.

Right, Yuu Asakura. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The funds from the crop will come in handy to order more copies of The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan as I am almost out of them (got about 20 left). And, it will be paying for my planned return to Japan. Promoting The Guide there is high on my list of things to do, along will visiting friends in Tokyo and taking an excursion to Niigata.

The election is less than a week away. It will be interesting to see the results.

Yes, Melissa, A Giant Walrus

Above, the U.S. poster for "Gorath."

Melissa (Two Ladies In A Car) and I were hanging out today and somehow she mentioned something about a giant walrus.

I then told her there's a Japanese sci-fi movie called Gorath (1962) about a rogue star on a collision course with earth, which featured a giant walrus named Magma. She looked at me in total disbelief. She gave a good laugh and gave me a "you must be bullshitting me" look.

Of course, not being at all familiar with Japanese science-fiction movies, she thought I was pulling her chain.

Well, here's the proof that I wasn't pulling her chain:

Now do you believe me?

Chick Stuff: First Episode of "Two Ladies In A Car"

Above, Cae Camille (left) and Melissa Cyrnek.

I just returned from my local Starbucks coffee joint to use their WiFi to view the first episode of Two Ladies In A Car, "Can I Still Buy My Nail Polish?"

The episode has the ladies out hitting stores to buy nail polish. It seems that the store who carries the polish won't sell it to the general public and they have to find a store that carries it and would sell it to them.

The video has the women in their car bantering about anything and everything that happens to pop up (including a commentary about a Hispanic lady selling cherries on the street with access to her rather difficult, at best).

Although corny, it is also very cute. Both Cae Camille and Melissa Cyrnek seemed perfectly natural and at no time did either look directly into the camera. In fact, they both acted as if they probably forgot it was even there. I was impressed with this.

They also sounded natural with no faux "Valley Girl" accent stuff.

(Confession: I may be a little biased, since Melissa is a friend, but this is my honest opinion.)

While viewing the video, I had on my headphones (to blot out any extraneous noise from other Starbucks patrons and to hear more clearly what's being said). I got a kick out of the sound effects that would pop up at times when one of the ladies said something of special note. A type of gun was mentioned and then the sound effect of a gunshot was heard. Clever!

The video was about nine minutes long. I am looking forward to the next episode.

Nice work, ladies!

Two Ladies In A Car

A good friend of mine, Melissa Cyrnek, has a new website with Cae Camille called Two Ladies In A Car.

Here's what it's about:

Two Ladies In A Car is a new webseries of adventures of two Southern California ladies in a car.

. . . the road hums an affection of harmony. Miles traveled, tell a story and navigate the streets with humor, dash and lovely. And the friendship shared with your ladies, well, that is one of steel, sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar.

Left, Cae Camille and Melissa Cyrnek.

The site includes:

A Webseries Adventure - home page.

Roadtrip In Progress - episode videos.

Pit Stops - listing of episodes.

Lady In Car - featuring The Lady Game contest.
